MITAGS Security Programs Available

Glen Paine, Executive Director of the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and the Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI), announced the development of specific programs to assist maritime personnel in meeting the new Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code security regulations.

Companion seminars have also been developed to provide additional knowledge in specific subject areas. Following is a list of security-related programs and their course convening dates (through July):

Security Officer Training Program – Port, Facility, Company, and Ship (SEC-OFF-PCS)

This comprehensive training program is designed for personnel assigned to port, facility, company, or ship security officer responsibilities. The program includes detailed training and instruction in the development of security assessments, plans, and drills.

At MITAGS (June 7-9, 2004, June 28-30, 2004, July 12-14, 2004 & July 26-28, 2004)

At PMI (June 9-11, 2004, June 30-July 2, 2004, July 12-14, 2004)

Contingency Planning (CONT-PLNG)

Attendees are introduced to the concepts of contingency planning and emergency management using the NFPA 1600 standard for disaster/emergency management.

At MITAGS (June 10, 2004, July 1, 2004, July 15, 2004, July 29, 2004)

Media Response Workshop (MEDIA-RSP)

This workshop is designed to give attendees the basic knowledge and skill necessary to respond to the news media during and after a major crisis. Attendees participate in videotaped mock interviews.
