Landmark Bridge Opens in Singapore

Thursday, January 03, 2008
Singapore’s new landmark bridge at the southern waterfront, Keppel Bay Bridge, was named and opened by His Excellency S R Nathan, President of Singapore.

Keppel Bay Bridge was opened by the President in a grand light-up ceremony involving spectacular pyrotechnics across its 250-m span, witnessed by more than 300 guests gathered at the waterfront promenade at the Reflections at Keppel Bay show gallery.

“This new landmark bridge forms part of the masterplan and infrastructure to transform Keppel Bay into a premier waterfront precinct that integrates exclusive waterfront residences, a private marina and prime offices.

Keppel Bay Bridge, built at the cost of nearly $30 million, was jointly designed by DCA Architects Pte Ltd and TY Lin International Pte Ltd and constructed by Penta Ocean Construction Co. Ltd. It is one of two cable-stay bridges in Singapore and will be handed over to the Land Transport Authority.

At night, the bridge is artfully lit to become a vibrant nucleus to attractions surrounding the Bay. With programmable special effects lighting, the pylon and stay-cables are lit by spot-lights and its span by changing LED lights which can be tailored to suit the occasion.

Come 19 January, the 10-Clipper fleet presently racing from Australia to Singapore in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race will berth at Marina at Keppel Bay and a short walk across Keppel Bay Bridge will allow both Singaporeans and visitors alike to enjoy the colourful welcome celebrations and festivities.
