Thursday, July 31, 2008

Becker Marine Systems Communication has entered into a global distribution partner agreement with Iridium Satellite to integrate, optimize and distribute Iridium OpenPortSM optimized-bandwidth marine satellite systems.

Under this agreement, Becker Marine Systems is fully integrating the Iridium OpenPort service with its unique umc.connect optimization server and its umc.global network managed services. This solution will be offered as “umc.connect skylink Iridium OpenPort+” to customers and partners. It will be completely integrated with the managed services of the umc.global network, providing one of the most comprehensive and universal communication solutions to the maritime industry today. Through use of a sophisticated wireless optimization protocol and a context sensitive compression algorithm, umc.connect skylink Iridium OpenPort+ will optimize the throughput of Iridium OpenPort dramatically.

With global, always-on, secure and managed Internet and VPN corporate network connections, plus three voice lines that can be used simultaneously, umc.connect skylink Iridium OpenPort+ will deliver the most reliable, cost-effective and flexible communication solution for vessels around the globe. Due to its unrivalled cost optimized routing service, umc.connect skylink Iridium OpenPort+ is also the ideal backup solution for any VSAT service while out of band or in shutdown mode. The services are provided with easy and transparent volume-based flat rates. The unlimited and global flat rate access to the umc.connect portnet wireless broadband infrastructure, with 6mbit/s of bandwidth in 80+ Ports, is directly built into the solution and extends the reach and capabilities extensively.

By using the umc.global network communication services, ship managers and ship owners can reduce the cost of communication by implementing faster, more capable and more reliable communication at lower cost. umc.connect skylink Iridium OpenPort+ comes with fully integrated managed services to enhance crew welfare such as unified messaging for email, SMS, fax, secure VPN tunneling, distributed shipborne/shore based firewall, AntiVirus, Anti Malware and Anti Spam protection as well as many other optional managed services for remote administration and support of PCs and servers on board, automated content distribution and synchronization, integration of Telephone Auto Exchange and many more.
