Amels to Build Second Limited Editions Series Megayacht

July 13, 2006

Amels recently announced plans to begin construction of the second in its Limited Editions series, the 64.7-m Amels 212. This decision follows the success of the Amels 171, introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2005. The Amels 212, like the Amels 171, is designed by Tim Heywood, will be shaped in a five-deck configuration. It is designed with a 65 m with high volume for its length and 1,500 gross tonnage. The 200 sq. m. sundeck features a hot tub, wet-feet bar, jet-stream pool, enclosed “skygym,” and alfresco dining for 12. A touch-and-go helipad is optional. On the bridge deck, abaft the wheelhouse, captain’s suite and pantry, Amels and Winch have placed two magnificent guest suites, adjoining a dramatic skylounge and alfresco dining area. Forward of the wheelhouse is a delightful fresh-air dining nook. The full-width owners’ suite—with dual bath, dressing room, and enclosed office—is forward on the main deck. The large main galley is amidships, connected to the main saloon and window-surrounded main dining room. On the lower deck a full-width VIP suite and two large guest suites are amidships, with 120 sq. m. of crew quarters for 16 in 10 cabins forward (a four-person staff cabin is on the tank deck). Aft of the engine room the 100 sq. m. watersports store has large side-opening hatches for two 8-m tenders. A central elevator serves guests between the lower deck and sundeck, in parallel with a spiral staircase serving all decks. A dedicated stairway allows crew to move independently between tank and bridge decks. The Amels 212 will carry a new low-noise electric bow thruster and is being built as a “green” vessel. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3516C diesels rated 2,350 kW @ 1800 rpm, top speed is 17 knots. With 155,000 liters of fuel range is 5,000 nm. Amels is building the 212 to Lloyd’s Register Class100A 1 SSC Yacht (P) Mono G6 LMC, UMS and to full compliance with the MCA Large Commercial Yacht Code (LY2) under Cayman Islands registry. The Amels 212 design will be presented at the 2006 Monaco Yacht Show, when computer renderings, drawings, specifications and a scale model will be shown to the public and press.
