ASNE Workshop to Discuss Navy C41 Strategy

Thursday, July 26, 2007
Industry experts and U.S. Navy leadership will gather next month at a workshop conducted by the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) to discuss how the U.S. Navy can afford, resource, acquire and deliver “state of the shelf” C4I technologies to ensure deploying naval forces are equipped with the latest yet most dependable capabilities.

Industry participants will have an opportunity to hear first hand, from the Navy’s top level C4I leadership, about the Navy’s C4I strategy and requirements and the challenges they face in rapidly transitioning the best available C4I technologies to the Fleet. Industry participants will then develop ideas and recommendations that they will present to the Navy C4I leaders. The two-day workshop, sponsored by the U.S. Navy Research Laboratory and the office of Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Communications Networks (OPNAV N6), will be held August 21-22, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

The Navy’s senior C4I leadership will kick off the workshop by describing what they hope to accomplish through the workshop. Industry attendees will then participate in facilitated sessions to examine and expand upon ideas and suggestions that could contribute to the Navy’s desired results. Invited speakers include Vice Admiral Mark J. Edwards, USN, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Communication Networks (N6); Rear Admiral Kenneth William Deutsch, USN, Director, Warfare Integration (N6F); Rear Admiral Michael C. Bachmann, USN, Commander, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command; and Mr. Chris Miller, (Program Executive Officer-C4I) Acting. Representatives from independent workshop sessions will present their ideas and suggestions to a panel of senior Navy C4I officials and defense C4I industry experts.
