Becker Joins MITAGS

Glen Paine, Executive Director of the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and the Pacific Maritime Institute (PMI), has announced that Captain Robert J. Becker has joined MITAGS as the Academic Business Development Manager.

Captain Becker is responsible for establishing market strategies, enhancing the client base, developing and managing proposals and contracts, evaluating client requirements to improve quality of service, measuring the effectiveness of marketing strategies, maintaining a business relationship with current clients, and coordinating all marketing and training programs with the academic department heads.

“Bob is a seasoned professional and a highly experienced ship master,” said Glen Paine. “I am confident that his maritime background will provide operating companies and mariners with the expertise to meet the plethora of regulations and license requirements for career advancement.”

Captain Becker has had a distinguished career as a permanent Master for Sealand Services and U.S. Ship Management, Inc. He was Master of the Sealand Endurance, a D9J class vessel that was recognized within the Sealand fleet for best budget, condition, and reliability. After graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1978, Capt. Becker also had the opportunity to work on chemical tankers, oil tankers, ro ro ships, break bulk ships, bulk ships, and container vessels. Recently, he received the distinguished “Silver Mariner Award” for 25 years of sea service from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
