Bender, Candies Sign Contract For OSV Trio

Friday, March 30, 2001
Bender Shipbuilding and Repair, and Otto Candies have executed a contract calling for the construction of three 240 x 54 x 20 ft. (73.1 x 16.4 x 6 m) Diesel Electric Variable Frequency Drive Offshore Supply Vessels (OSVs). The contact is the continuation of the orders previously received from Otto Candies and the resultant construction of five OSVs and three 10,000 hp Anchor Handling Tugs. Bender designed and implemented state-of-the-art characteristics for the vessels, which include Variable Frequency AC Motors & Drive Systems and DP2 System from Alstom, two Rolls Royce Aquamaster 2001 drives and two 900 hp Kamewa bowthrusters. The vessels' alarm, monitoring, tank level indication and automatic valve systems, as well as the systems integration are provided by Marine One. Also featured onboard are cylindrical liquid mud tanks with internal propeller agitators, which results in segregated cargo carrying capability. The OSVs also house 8,000 cu. ft. of bulk mud carrying capacity in five tanks.
