Friday, October 29, 1999
A Japanese cargo ship has been missing since its departure in Indonesia Oct. 22, prompting fears that it might have been hijacked. The Alondra Rainbow, carrying 7,000 tons of aluminum ingot produced at PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum smelter, was scheduled to arrive at Miike port in Kyushu late in October, an official at Nippon Asahan Co. Ltd. said. The official said that the company lost contact with the ship soon after it left Kuala Tanjung port on Oct. 22.
