Cruise, Ferry and Naval Projects to Get Evac Systems

Scandinavian passenger ship operators have specified Evac vacuum toilet and waste treatment for their latest newbuildings from Aker Kvaerner group yards in Finland. Evac systems will also serve RoPax ferries and cruise liners commissioned by other major owners, as well as diverse naval vessels Birka Line cruise ship The 33,000gt/1,800-passenger vessel ordered by Birka Line from Aker Finnyards - dubbed the ‘Floating Caribbean’ - is designed to set new standards of year-round cruising in the Baltic after delivery in autumn 2004. An extensive range of accommodation and amenities spread over eight decks of the 11-deck ship will include a whole deck dedicated to passenger recreation and a large Spa area decorated with palms. Operating in the Baltic dictates a high priority on environmental friendliness in the design and equipment specification, reflected in Clean Design and Comfort Class notations from Det Norske Veritas which respectively cover anti-pollution and noise and vibration standards. Contributing to the attainment of these standards will be an Evac vacuum toilet system serving the 738 passenger cabins and 200 crew cabins, comprising: 1,008 Evac 900 wall-mounted Silent vacuum toilets. 10 vacuum interface valves. Three vacuum collecting units, each with a volume of 10m3. A grease-separating grey water tank. Color Line cruiseferry Commissioned by Color Line from Kvaerner Masa-Yards’ Turku facility, the world’s largest cruiseferry will serve on the Norwegian owner’s Oslo-Kiel route from December 2004. The 74,600gt vessel will offer capacity for 2,770 passengers and stowage for 750 cars/1,270 lane-metres for trailers. Over half the passenger cabins will be outside facing, and others will overlook a 120m long x three-deck high atrium flanked by attractions and shops. A sistership is optioned at the Finnish yard. Evac will supply the following equipment packages to serve the 968 passenger cabins and 248 crew cabins: 1,268 Evac 900 wall-mounted Silent vacuum toilets. Three vacuum collecting units, each with a volume of 16m3. A grease-separating grey water tank. Two grey water dilution units. A grease trap for pre-treating galley grey water. An MSP for sewage only, with grey or sea water for dilution. Two MSP X-type biological sewage treatment plants. An automation system with remote operation of the equipment from the engine control room. Newbuildings commissioned by RoPax ferry operators are also specified with Evac vacuum toilet systems, among them: Brittany Ferries’ 39,300gt/2,250-passenger RoPax ferry Pont-Aven booked from Meyer Werft in Germany for delivery in spring 2004 and deployment by the French owner between France, the UK and Spain. Evac’s supply will include an outfit of 1,600 vacuum toilets. Two 1,300-passenger RoPax ferries ordered by Enterprise Nationale de Transports Maritimes de Voyageurs (ENTMV) of Algeria for handover in 2004 from Izar’s Sevilla yard and service between Algiers and Marseilles. A Corsican Ferries conversion project (yard to be decided) also calls for the installation of a vacuum toilet system.
