EU Directive re Sulphur Content of Marine Fuel Oil

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

August 1, 2005

The European Parliament issued a Directive relating to reduction in the sulphur content of certain marine fuels used on ships operating in waters of the European Community. This Directive amends that of 1999 and brings the EC requirements somewhat closer to those of MARPOL Annex VI. It also makes it clear that the marine fuel restrictions apply to ships at berth.
