A proposal from Freeport LNG to put a control room on top of a wave barrier levee at Clute, Tex.-based Quintana drew concern from Velasco Drainage District supervisors, according to a The Facts report.
The board didn’t take any action at its recent meeting, and no Freeport LNG officials attended, but the drainage district board indicated Freeport LNG might have to present alternatives for putting a control room on the district’s easement.
The proposed 1,350-square-foot control room, now larger than the original design, would be built on driven pilings on top of the levee. The vantage point would give good visibility to incoming tankers carrying liquefied natural gas, according to the report.
While Freeport LNG’s engineering plans are still outstanding, supervisors seemed perturbed the company hadn’t previously mentioned building a control room on top of the wave barrier.
Freeport LNG also plans to request putting in pipes to the LNG terminal in and along the south wave barrier.|
