U.S. military shipbuilder General Dynamics Corp. said the Navy had awarded it an additional $661 million to complete the construction of the next two ships in the DDG 51 AEGIS Class of naval destroyers. The Falls Church, Va.-based company said in the statement that the agreement is a modification to its 1998-2001 DDG 51 Class multi-year contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command.

Bath Iron Works unit would begin construction of the DDG 99 and DDG 101 in 2001, with delivery anticipated in 2006.
