While much of the boat building industry on south Louisiana is being driven by the deep-water offshore industry, there is a continuing need to maintain the existing near shore production wells and infrastructure. The market demand in this sector was increased by extensive infrastructure damage by hurricane Katrina. At the end of December Intracoastal Ironworks will deliver the Lauren G, a 1200 hp lugger-type model bow tug to meet the demands of that market niche. To be operated by G.O.L. (Gulf Offshore Logistics) the 72 x 28 vessel has a molded depth of seven feet. In addition to the model bow the boat is fitted with a pair of hefty 14-foot push knees and electric deck winches for added versatility. A sturdy H-bitt aft allows towing as well. The large forward deck has a five-ton hydraulic crane mounted forward. A pair of 600 HP Cummins KTA19 engines turning into Twindisc 5170 gears powers the versatile vessel.
