China Changjang Shipping Group Corp. (CSC) and the manufacturer of large-bore diesel engines MAN B&W Diesel celebrated a special event at the SMM trade fair in Hamburg. CSC will order the 250th marine engine and the 50th CP propeller from MAN B&W Diesel. Since 1995, the Chinese shipyard has been procuring both two-stroke and four-stroke engines also GenSets and propellers from MAN B&W Diesel, predominantly for use in container and RoRo vessels. The anniversary was celebrated by the presentation of a special gift. The Chinese guests were able to take another MAN B&W engine home with them … one which even fit into their luggage. Dr. Stefan Spindler, Member of the Executive Board of MAN B&W Diesel, handed over a mini MAN engine to Liu Xi Han, Managing Director CSC, which weighs only ten kilos, has an output of 0.3 PS, and is fully operational. This unique piece, commissioned especially for the Chinese guests, was built by the apprentices of the Augsburg MAN B&W Diesel works and took more than 40 hours to complete. “This long-standing and successful partnership with CSC is confirmation of our previous and intensive activities in the Chinese shipbuilding sector,” emphasises Dr. Spindler. MAN B&W Diesel has profited from the shipbuilding boom by a large increase in orders and now has a market share of more than 60 percent in China with regard to medium-speed four-stroke propulsion engines.
