Mediterranean Shipping Company (USA) Inc. (MSC)has commenced a new weekly service in the Caribbean with the sailing of the MSC CARIBS out of Miami, Florida to Freeport, Bahamas. The company is serving Rio Haina, Dominican Republic, Kingston, Jamaica and Port au Prince, Haiti on a dedicated weekly basis via Freeport.
The MSC vessel, MSC Bahamas, will be used in rotation linking Miami and Freeport with these three Caribbean destinations. The company is also doing a second loop that will serve the Eastern Caribbean i.e. Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, St. Lucia, Guyana and Suriname.
“By commencing our own dedicated service to the Caribbean, MSC can best serve the needs of those who rely upon Miami connections to this important region,” said Nicola Arena, president of MSC (USA) Inc. “It is a logical extension of our well-established Miami-Freeport service which already utilizes Freeport as a hub for cargoes transshipped to the Americas and overseas.”
Named as Line Manager for MSC’s Caribbean Service is Rocco L. Basile. Basile has been with MSC since September of 1994, working as assistant line manager, South Atlantic & Gulf service. From 1996 until 1998 he worked as assistant line manager in the West Coast South American Service. Most recently, he served as line manager for the company’s SouthAfrica/Australia service.
In his new post, Basile will be responsiblefor business development, pricing and operations for the Caribbean services.
