Wednesday, December 19, 2001
Norcontrol IT has won the contract to upgrade the Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTMIS) for the Draugen Offshore Oil Platform in the North Sea. The contract also includes a five-year Long Term System Support Program (LT-SSP). The Draugen Platform is owned and operated by A/S Norske Shell and currently uses a Norcontrol IT VOC 90 system. This system will be replaced with the latest VTMIS 5060, which can be upgraded to communicate with other VTS systems in the North Sea. The VTMIS 5060 has the built in capability to meet future government requirements regarding communication between land and offshore platforms. Harald Østby, Manager of the Norcontrol IT Customer Centre commented “Norske Shell has been a Norcontrol IT customer since 1992, so we are very pleased they chose us not only to upgrade the Draugen VTS, but to provide long term system support as well.” Draugen Offshore Oil Platform has been in operation since 1993 and has an average production of 220,000 barrels of oil per day. Draugen is the first offshore platform north of Stadt, Norway, approximately 145 kilometres north of Kristiansund, Norway, and is one of seven other Norcontrol IT VTS systems on oil platforms in the North Sea Norcontrol IT combines world leading Vessel Traffic Systems with equally high standards of system support. The Norcontrol IT Long Term System Support Program (LT-SSP) is tailor made to meet the customer’s specific support requirements and to secure a maximum return for their investment. The Norcontrol IT LT-SSP guarantees fixed and predictable maintenance costs, assured Rapid Response Time and consistent high system performance through regular software updates.
