North American Marine, R. E. Perry Alliance

Thursday, August 13, 2009

It is a well-known fact that marine assets are unique, whether they are inland and ocean-going vessels or waterfront properties, shipyards and barge fleeting operations. Making business decisions pertaining to them, especially in today’s market, can be difficult. Consequently, North American Marine Consultants, LLC, and R.E. Perry Company have formed a strategic alliance to better assist their customers in managing their marine assets by providing knowledge-based marine surveying, financial appraisal analyses and brokerage services for vessels and land-based marine assets worldwide.

North American Marine Consultants, LLC, a new venture headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, provides professional marine surveying and appraisal services for inland and ocean-going vessels. The R.E. Perry Company delivers industrial and maritime real estate brokerage and advisory services for maritime properties. Together, under the banner of North American Marine Consultants, LLC, these two organizations are well-qualified to assist customers in better managing marine vessels, land and equipment assets for projects involving:

•    Sale and purchase transactions
•    Generational transfer of business assets
•    Mergers and acquisitions
•    Internal Revenue Service tax appraisals
•    Partnership buyout appraisals
•    Fair Market Value lease buyout appraisal arbitrations
•    Disputes involving marine assets and waterfront properties

Successful joint venture projects to date have an aggregate value of approximately $300m.

The principals of North American Marine Consultants, LLC, James F. Pritchard and Keith J. Weber have extensive experience in the marine and financial services industries. Pritchard, who is a certified NAMS surveyor and a member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), has worked in the marine industry for 35 years in numerous capacities. Before founding North American Marine Consultants, LLC, he was chief operating officer for 10 years at Merrill Marine Services. Weber, who was formerly a corporate finance officer, has a bachelor of finance and masters in business administration degrees and is an ASA certified appraiser.

Russell E. Perry, founder of the R.E. Perry Company, an industrial and maritime real estate brokerage and advisory firm, earned a significant professional reputation for his expertise in providing these services for maritime properties. Perry gained a knowledge-based background in the valuation of commercial maritime properties as a result of representing and consulting corporate real estate clients in the sales, purchase and asset lease administration of industrial distribution centers and marine terminals. Perry furthered his professional association with the marine industry by earning his U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Captains license.
