O'Neil to become Videotel President

Friday, February 27, 2004
Maritime training company Videotel Marine International has announced that Bill O'Neil, formerly General Secretary of the IMO, is to become its new President. "Bill O'Neil has done a great deal to promote the safety culture in the maritime industry, and training is an inherent part of that culture," says Stephen Bond, managing director of Videotel. "His experience and reputation will help ensure that Videotel remains at the forefront of the training industry." In an unrelated move, Chris Haughton has stepped down as deputy managing director to take up a post in the Leadership Centre at the University of Lancaster. He will remain a consultant to Videotel, providing advice on new training courses. His position at Videotel has been filled by a new General Manager, Mike Potts, who has more than twenty-five years' seagoing experience and has served as master on several tankers. Since then he has spent three years in Japan with MISC and Shell, and has worked with Marine Navigation as a quality, training and safety superintendent. Potts joins Videotel from the BSI Inspectorate, where he was responsible for developing in-house operational support functions.
