Classification Society RINA has been named as the second best performing classification society for 2006 in the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control.
The
Paris MOU is an administrative agreement between the maritime authorities of 24 European countries and Canada. It is regularly amended to accommodate new safety and marine environmental requirements from IMO as well as other important developments such as the various EU directives that address marine safety. The member-countries have agreed to inspect 25 percent of the estimated number of individual foreign merchant ships which enter their ports.
RINA CEO Ugo Salerno says, “It is very gratifying to see RINA included by the Paris MoU in the top echelon of classification societies for the last three years. Notably, RINA’s last three years’ financial results have been the best in its history. This is confirmation that quality pays off in economic terms, as well as in other respects. Shipping is an increasingly tightly regulated industry, and it is incumbent on all participating parties to observe the very highest safety and environmentally sympathetic standards of operation. RINA has always placed these issues at the top of its agenda.”
