Scorpion Names Offshore Freedom

Monday, August 10, 2009

ABS representatives attended the naming ceremony for Scorpion Offshore’s ultra-premium, LeTourneau Super 116E jackup, ABS-classed and built at Lamprell Shipyard in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This is the sixth jackup for Scorpion classed by ABS. Offshore Freedom is capable of operating in up to 400-ft water depth and has a 30,000-ft drilling capacity.

ABS has classed a series of five Scorpion rigs (Offshore Courageous, Offshore Defender, Offshore Resolute, Offshore Vigilant and Offshore Intrepid) all of the same LeTourneau design delivered progressively throughout 2007 and 2008 from Keppel Amfels’ yard in Brownsville. The seventh and final ABS-classed jackup for Scorpion, Offshore Mischief, is scheduled for delivery the fourth quarter of this year from Lamprell.
