On November 1 the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association honored
Senesco Marine for the company’s commitment to excellence in manufacturing by naming the shipbuilder “Manufacturer of the Year” with the John Hazen White Sr. Commitment to Manufacturing Award.
Senesco Marine was recognized as a model manufacturer and corporate citizen based on its quality products, multi-million dollar investment in equipment and technology and ongoing commitment to employee training. The company was also hailed for its work in providing economic opportunity for a wide range of people including hard to employ Rhode Islanders such as immigrants, those leaving welfare and former prisoners looking to turn their lives around.
Annually the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association honors the legacy of businessman and philanthropist John Hazen White, Sr., by presenting the prestigious award in his honor. Hazen White’s commitment to his family, his manufacturing business, his community, and the State of Rhode Island stands as a model for manufacturers throughout the state.
“We’re honored to be recognized with this award,” said Senesco Marine CEO Gary Schuler. “It is a testament to the men and women of Senesco Marine and to the quality ships we build.”
John Grady, executive director of the Rhode Island Manufacturer’s Association, said Senesco Marine was a logical choice for the organization’s coveted award. “As the shipbuilding industry has come to
know Senesco Marine’s reputation for quality products, we too in Rhode Island have been watching closely as one of our own has achieved such remarkable success in such a short period of time.”
Senesco Marine was founded in 1999 and built its first barge that same year. Since that time, the company has established a solid reputation and is being called on more and more to help meet the rapidly growing need for double hulled liquid fuel barges.
Senesco Marine has adjusted its manufacturing process to provide the greatest possible double hulled capacity by devoting much of the company’s production capacity to the construction of double hulled barges.
