Sitka, Lynn Canal Receiving Increased Ferry Service

Wednesday, March 08, 2006
The Alaska Marine Highway System has begun a special schedule for the M/V Chenega/ providing service between Juneau and Sitka, and Juneau, Haines and Skagway, which will continue through mid-April. M/V Chenega is filling in for the M/V Fairweather on these routes, while Fairweather is in Ketchikan for maintenance on its engines.

Chenega will make a round trip between Juneau and Sitka on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The trip from Juneau to Sitka is approximately four and a half hours on the fast ferry. Due to tides in Sergius Narrows, some departure and arrival times will vary.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the vessel will depart Juneau to provide service to Haines and Skagway. The fast ferry makes the trip from Juneau to Haines in only two hours and forty-five minutes. On each of these days, Chenega will provide 30-minute shuttle trips between Haines and Skagway.

Chenega will also make one Juneau-Haines roundtrip on Mondays.
