Transas Wins Huge A.P. Moller Deal

Monday, December 10, 2001
Transas Scandinavia AB has won a large order to supply the A.P. Moller ship owning companies with an extensive ECDIS package. According to the contract signed with INFOCOM Systems A/S (Infocom), a technology company in the A.P. Moller Group, Transas will provide 160 Maersk vessels with a dual Navi-Sailor 2400 ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) complete with Radar Overlay, a full world folio of Transas electronic charts and a subscription to the chart correction service. Transas has also been contracted to supply the weather forecast software, Weather Wizard, onto each ship, as well as the necessary Transas computers and Hatteland displays. In addition to the onboard equipment range, the Transas delivery package will comprise an office ECDIS system for the A.P. Moller head office in Copenhagen, and a total of 6 simulator training systems for installation at the Maersk training centre, SIMAC and Kogtved Navigational Academy. In February 2001, Transas Scandinavia together with Infocom installed an evaluation system on the Maersk container vessel M/S Chastine Maersk at the Lindoe shipyard in Denmark. Installations of the dual ECDIS systems onboard the A.P. Moller vessels will be carried out by the shipping company's engineers, for whom Transas Scandinavia will arrange a dedicated installation-training course at its premises in Gothenburg. The main contractor for this order is Infocom Systems A/S, which is Transas Scandinavia's business partner in Denmark. Infocom is a part of the A.P. Moller Group and 100% owned by Maersk Data. The experienced system integrator, Infocom acts as the group's provider of high-tech electronic information and communication solutions to the international defence and maritime markets. Infocom has chosen the Transas ECDIS and recommended it to the A.P. Moller as the most mature and cost effective system available in the market.
