Wednesday, March 27, 2002
The U.S. Coast Guard has released its Delegation Report on the 47th session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC). The report notes that all major U.S. objectives were achieved. The report notes that once the Particularly Sensitive Sea Area around the Florida Keys will enter into force six months after it is adopted by the MSC in May 2002. Due to the complex, unresolved legal and technical issues, the U.S. reserved its legal position with regard to the draft text of the International Convention for the Control of Ship's Ballast Water and Sediments.
