Foss, Østensjø Partner for US Offshore Wind

Port of Everett Facelifts South Terminal

Foss Maritime departed the Port of Everett enroute to the Port of Los Angeles to pick up two gantry cranes for use at the Port’s modernized South Terminal.The $57 million South Terminal Modernization project will ensure the Port’s facilities are ready to support the next generation of over-dimensional cargo, including aerospace parts for the new 777X. The two cranes are a critical piece in this loading and unloading efficiency.“The completion of this upgrade will add another full-service berth at the Port to accommodate project, bulk, breakbulk, high and heavy and containerized cargoes,” said Carl Wollebek, the Port’s Chief Operating Officer.

Damco Wins Two BIFA Awards

Held on January 16, 2014 in London, Global freight forwarder and logistics services provider Damco has won two awards at the event of the British International Freight Association – BIFA Awards. The Damco U.K. team was chosen best in two categories - The Environment Award and Young Freight Forwarder Award. The jury chose Damco, as the team exhibited a range of initiatives that scope extends beyond their own organization, including reporting of the carbon footprint to their customers and demonstrating total transparency.

TSMS Transition Program Debuts at SUNY Towing Forum

Baker, Lyman & Co. will offer UTV operators a unique opportunity to review the TSMS Transition Program though an hour long interactive presentation during the October 17, 2012 Towing Forum at SUNY Maritime. TSMS, or Towing Safety Management System, is the result of the long awaited Sub-Chapter M Rules by which towing vessels become subject to USCG safety management inspection. The TSMS Transition Program allows Sub-Chapter M impacted operators to enroll into a regulatorily certified Towing Safety Management System prior to the Sub-Chapter M Final Rule.

Foss Maritime Honored

Captain Sam Nelson and crew of the Foss Maritime Company tugboat Justine Foss received the Lifesaving Award from the Seamen's Church Institute at their annual Silver Bell Dinner on June 1 in New York. United States Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Thad Allen was in attendance and personally congratulated Captain Nelson. Captain Nelson and his crew received the award for their heroic efforts in response to the needs of the crew of the tugboat Valour and the barge M-192 while in heavy weather and rough seas on January 18, 2006 off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Capt. Nelson and his crew, through their seamanship skills, were able to rescue five men from the water and regain control of the laden tank barge during darkness and severe sea conditions…
