ClassNK Awarded Authorization from Portugal


ClassNK (Chairman and President Noboru Ueda) has announced that the Portuguese Flag Adminstration (Instituto Portuário e dos Transportes Marítimos, I.P) and ClassNK entered into an agreement on 29 August 2012.


Under the agreement, the Society is now able to perform surveys and issue certificates in accordance with SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Line and other international conventions to all Portuguese flagged vessels and Madeiran flagged vessels, on behalf of those flags administrations.


According to “World Fleet Statistics” (Fairplay), the Portuguese register holds 353 vessels (168,293GT) and the Madeiran register holds 106 vessels (1,072,256GT). Also, to this day, a total of 105 countries/regions are delegating authority for certifications and survey of its registered fleet to ClassNK.
