Samsung Introduces Shipyard Chatbot

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has introduced a chatbot dubbed SBOT for its ship designers as part of plans to boost the shipyard’s competitiveness.When a user asks SBOT a question, its artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes the meaning and finds design information, such as details on regulations and contracts, that is available from various systems within the company. KR Unveils Port State Control Mobile App

Classification society Korean Register (KR) has launched the 'KR PSC ADVISER' mobile app to help customers prepare for Port State Control (PSC) inspections. Danish Maritime Authority improves information for seafarers

From January 2, 2017, Notices to Mariners will be available via a new and improved online system that also presents navigation warnings and shooting warnings. In the future, Notices to Mariners will be issued and made available on an ongoing basis and not only on Fridays. It will become possible to view the information graphically in a chart as well as in a new improved list format. Christian Kopp Pedersen, Manager of Navigation and Information in the Danish Maritime Authority, ”The new chart view will provide a far better overview of which notices are of relevance to each individual user. It will be possible to download and bring along the information offline and it will also be possible to access historical information by means of a search function.

DMA's New Online System for Seafarers

KR Upgrades KR-CON with Dangerous Goods Search Function

Classification society Korean Register (KR) announced the release of its latest KR-CON software. The essential software tool, now in its 14th edition includes an enhanced and increasingly critical dangerous goods program, which has been developed in-house, as one of its key functions. KR-CON offers a comprehensive electronic database of International Maritime Organization (IMO) instruments, providing all of the latest IMO Conventions, Codes, Resolutions and Circulars. By simply inputting a ship’s particulars, KR-CON allows the user to find all of the regulations relevant to a specific task and helps to ensure that all of the IMO requirements are applied correctly.

New Bridge Procedures Guide from ICS

ClassNK announced the release of an improved "e-Application" system. This improvement was planned based on requests from the users. Therefore, firstly we would like to show our appreciation to the kind feedback from our customers. 1. e-Application users can find ClassNK office in charge from a place of survey (port) using the search function. 2. e-Application users can search and re-use data of previous application. 3. ICS Publishes Chemical Tanker Safety Guide

A fully updated edition of the definitive industry guidance on the safe operation of chemical tankers has just been published by the shipping industry’s global trade association, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). The new edition of the ICS Tanker Safety Guide (Chemicals) replaces the previous edition issued in 2002. ICS recommends that a copy is carried on board every tanker engaged in the carriage of chemical cargoes, and that copies are also held within shipping company technical departments.

Intellian to Debut V100GX VSAT Antenna

The new Intellian v100GX 3-Axis Ku-Band VSAT communications antenna will be unveiled at Norshipping 2013. The technically advanced antenna is fully prepared for the upcoming Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band broadband service from Inmarsat, and can be upgraded to the service with minimal technical intervention. The 1m v100GX incorporates a superb dual-band, carbon fiber reflector and tuned radome for consistent service, whether operating on the existing Ku- band, or converting to Ka- band when available next year.

Intellian Debuts New VSAT Antenna

Intellian showed  itsnew v110GX 3-Axis Ku-band VSAT communications antenna at SMM 2012. Prepared for the upcoming Global Express (GX) Ka-band broadband service from Inmarsat, the 1m Intellian v110GX incorporates a dual-band, carbon fibre reflector and tuned radome for consistent service, whether operating on either Ku- or Ka- band. The high-gain precision carbon fiber reflector is designed to provide optimum performance on either Ku- or Ka- band. When converting the system the antenna reflector does not need to be changed and the RF section is mounted on a single modular chassis enabling quick conversion to Ka-Band operation without any system re-balancing. The new radome has been developed to ensure efficient operation on both bands and minimise signal loss of the radome itself.

JRC’s New 10.4-Inch All-in-One LCD Radar

Japan Radio Co., Ltd. (JRC) is pleased to announce the introduction of the JMA-3300 series radar incorporating some of the latest technological achievements available. The new all-in-one radar features a bonded, ultra bright LCD. It is backlit by white LED’s giving 1000 candelas of brightness, a level not previously found on this class of radar. BIMCO Launches Solid Cargo Database

BIMCO has launched the BIMCO Solid Cargo Database as an additional feature on the BIMCO website. According to Niels Bjørn Mortensen, Senior Manager, BIMCO Marine Department, it provides information on various types of dry bulk cargoes. Available only to members, the BIMCO Cargo Database is a valuable supplement to the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Code of Safe Practice for Solid Bulk Cargoes (BC Code), the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code), the International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk (Grain Code), and other relevant publications.
