Kongsberg Maritime to Increase Training in Philippines

Manilla last week signed an agreement to provide training courses for Kongsberg products in the Philippines. Following demand from ship owners, several courses will be initiated Autumn 2007. The Norwegian Training Center - Manila (NTC-M) was established in 1990 by the Norwegian Shipowners' Association in order to provide relevant upgrading training for Filipino seafarers serving on the ships of its members. At the time some 25,000 Filipino seafarers were serving on Norwegian-owned or controlled ships. In order to simulate a real life situation the classroom will be equipped with state of the art Kongsberg simulation products, designed to enhance the experience and learning curve of the Filipino attendees, in their local environment.

BASS and NTC-M Partner Up

In sync with their objective of “training seafarers using quality software”, BASS and the Norwegian Training Center (NTC-M) in Manila have agreed to establish hands-on training experience for seafarers as the industry moves towards adopting ICT (Information and Communications Technology). BASS will contribute by installing their integrated shipboard applications in a simulated environment in NTC-M while the training center will conduct training based upon actual operation between ship and office. The configuration of such training mechanism is said to benefit the seafarers as learning gets easier this way.
