Oldendorff Testing Second-generation Biofuels

German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers announced a trial voyage using biofuel for the CBH Group, the largest agricultural cooperative in Western Australia, is being performed on the Edwine Oldendorff from Australia to Vietnam. The vessel loaded 30,000 tonnes of sustainably certified malting barley from the Albany Grain Terminal in Western Australia for discharge in Vietnam using biofuel, supplied by BP. The vessel was bunkered with an advanced biofuel blend, which is expected to result in 15% emissions avoided compared to conventional fossil fuels…

Pair of Inland Container Vessels for Den Bosch Max BV Named

Two new inland container vessels built by Concordia Damen were named at a ceremony held at BCTN’s inland terminal at Den Bosch on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Den Bosch Max BV is a joint venture between logistics services provider Nedcargo International BV and inland terminal operator BCTN.Following on from their delivery in December 2020 and January 2021, the Den Bosch Max Blauw and the Den Bosch Max Groen were named respectively by Royal Commissioner I. Adema, and Nicole Verduijn, the partner of Heineken BV’s logistics manager.

Wärtsilä Developing Autonomous Container Shuttle Service

Finnish marine equipment and technology company Wärtsilä said on Thursday it is working to develop an autonomous, emissions-free intra-port, inter-terminal container shuttle that would help address the emerging capacity bottleneck for internal container transportation.The project is part of an international alliance headed by the Port of Rotterdam Authority, which has this month been awarded nearly €25 million in EU funding to implement projects aimed at sustainable and smart port logistics.

Partners to Trial Emissions-free Barging Concept in the Netherlands

A group of partners in Europe aims to use battery containers on board barges to supply environmentally friendly fully-electric propulsion in lieu of diesel for inland waterway shipping.Supported by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the concept is being spearheaded by the Zero Emission Services B.V. (ZES), a consortium including technology group Wärtsilä, ING Bank, energy and technical service provider Engie and the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The project will launch first in the Netherlands, where inland navigation accounts for 5% of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

DSGC Joins Forces with Maersk for Biofuel Project

A group of Dutch multinationals including FrieslandCampina, Heineken, Philips, DSM, Shell and Unilever, all members of the Dutch Sustainable Growth Coalition (DSGC), will join forces with A.P. Damen Takes Second in Maritime & Aviation Sector in MT500 Rankings

Damen Shipyards Group has achieved second place in the maritime & aviation sector in this year’s MT500 rankings of the top 500 companies and institutions in the Netherlands. It also came twentieth out of 500 in the overall ranking, its best ever result.In the ratings breakdown, Damen achieved the full five stars for product leadership and employment practises. The winner in the maritime & aviation category was national airline KLM, with the Port of Rotterdam coming third.The MT500 is the result of an annual survey of business decision makers that asks them to assess and rank companies in the same and related sectors as their own businesses on product leadership, customer focus and excellent execution.

GoodFuels Launches Sustainable Drop-in Marine Fuels Pilot

Heineken Netherlands, Nedcargo and sustainable fuel market-leader GoodFuels have launched a pilot to demonstrate a sustainable drop-in marine fuel on-board of the ‘For Ever’ – an inland barge dedicated to transport Heineken export beer, from the Heineken brewery in Zoeterwoude to the deep-sea terminals in Rotterdam. The advanced marine fuel supplied by GoodFuels contains 30% biofuel and thereby reduces CO2-emissions by more than 25%, whilst also sharply reducing local emissions as nitrogen and particulate matter. The project will showcase the possibility of reducing emissions of inland waterway transport without any vessel modification. The exact emission reduction compared to fossil fuel will be monitored live during the pilot using Blueco’s Konnexus system for remote monitoring.

Bell Finance Director, Aberdeen Harbour

Aberdeen Harbour Board has appointed James Bell as finance director following the recent retirement of Graeme Clark after 26 years service. Bell joins the Board from the Caledonian Brewing Company, a subsidiary of Heineken UK, where he was head of finance since 2002. A graduate of Dundee University, Bell initially trained with Bird Simpson, Chartered Accountants, and spent seven years with Meston Reid & Co before joining Diageo in 2001.

Anglo Dutch Award for Damen Shipyard

On Tuesday, November 25, Damen Shipyards Gorinchem was awarded the Heineken Trophy, an initiative by the Netherlands British Chamber of Commerce. The Trophy was presented to Erik van der Noordaa, COO of the Damen Shipyards Group, by Jean-François van Boxmeer, Chairman and CEO of Heineken. In the presence of the British Ambassador the prize was awarded to Damen as a result of an increasing level of export of vessels to the United Kingdom over a sustained period of time. Beer Shipments via Schencker

Schencker is going to co-ordinate the Euro Demand Point (EDP) of Heineken Breweries in Rotterdam. From this EDP the special beers of various European breweries are consolidated and shipped to destinations in the United States. In first instance the volume is some 60,000 pallets. Schenker will take care of the transport within Europe as well and also handle the empty returns are part of the contract. It is expected that volume will rise further in the coming years.
