Bestobell Valves, part of the President Engineering Group, said it has received a major boost to its marine division with the award of a new contract for cryogenic cargo globe valves from the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in China.

The multimillion dollar contract will see the U.K.-based company manufacturing valves for six 174K LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Carriers.  The LNGC have been contracted by Sinopec, China Shipping Group and MOL of Japan to ship coal bed LNG from the Gladstone field in Australia back to China.

The valves will be part of the largest LNGC vessels to be built at Hudong Zhonghua shipyard and will be due for delivery by the end of 2015. These will also be the first LNGCs to utilise GE’s latest gas turbine engine technology.

Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director of Bestobell Valves, explained, “This new contract win is part of our strategy to invest resources to expand our growth in China.  Here we are focusing not just on supplying valves to new LNG Carriers, but also for the predicted boom in the use of LNG as a fuel for domestic vessels, as China seeks to convert its transport economy over to cleaner fuels. Bestobell Marine is well placed to serve this market through our experience of supplying high quality cryogenic valves for similar LNG fuel systems in Europe and America.”

Bestobell Marine has a longstanding relationship with Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard, having supplied its full range of cryogenic valves to four previous vessels being built here, also for MOL  and chartered by Exxon Mobil.

This latest business win brings the number of contracts that Bestobell Marine has with the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard to ten.

This latest contract comes just a few weeks after Bestobell Marine secured a contract to supply DSME Shipbuilding company in South Korea with Globe, Check and FLIV valves in a multimillion dollar deal.
