Bollinger Wins 8th Consecutive SCA Safety Award

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. was awarded the 2012 “Award for Excellence in Safety” by the Shipbuilders Council of America for the eighth consecutive year. On April 11, 2013, The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) presented the “Award for Excellence in Safety” to Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. during the association’s Spring General Membership Meeting in Washington, DC. The Award for Excellence in Safety is given to member companies with the lowest Total Recordable Incident Rates (TRIR) based on a quarterly injury and illness survey conducted by the association.

Coast Guard Foundation Tribute Honors Heroes

20th Annual Dinner to be Held in New Orleans on March 1st, 2013. The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that its 20th Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Eighth District will take place on Friday, March 1, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Coast Guard Foundation’s New Orleans awards dinner is a festive celebration of the men and women serving in the U.S. Coast Guard's 8th District, which includes the Gulf Coast as well as the inland waterways of the country.

Bollinger Shipyards president and CEO, Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, won the 2011 Executive Leadership Safety Award by Signal Mutual Indemnity Association. The award, which is Signal’s highest honor, was presented at the Signal Mutual Board of Directors meeting held on January 20, 2012 in Vail, Colorado. Bollinger was selected from the more than two hundred Signal Mutual Members based upon a number of factors including safety contributions to the industry. “This award is validation of the tireless efforts by every member of the Bollinger shipbuilding team in creating a safe working environment and a safety culture that is second to none,” said Bollinger.

Bollinger Shipyards Celebrates Success

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. hosted a celebration of success ceremony on May 1, commemorating the completion of the 87 ft Marine Protector-class Coastal Patrol Boat (CPB) project. The event featured the USCGC Sea Fox (WPB 87374). S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-La.); Coast Guard Assistant Commandant for Acquisition Rear Adm. Gary T. Bollinger Awarded Contract for FRCs for Coast Guard

Bollinger has been selected to design and construct up to 34 Fast Response Cutters "Sentinel" Class (FRC) for the Coast Guard. The FRC, a new generation of USCG patrol boats, is a replacement for the Coast Guard ISLAND Class cutters that Bollinger built almost a quarter century ago. Bollinger CEO and Chairman of the Board, Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, said that the program, which is expected to last for approximately ten years, could result in the construction of 34 Coast Guard cutters that will provide employment for approximately 500 people in the Bollinger organization.

Bollinger Receives Safety Award

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. has been presented the Award For Excellence In Safety by the Shipyard Council of America (SCA). The award was presented during the association’s April 7, 2008 general membership meeting held in The Award For Excellence In Safety is given to member companies who have an end-of-year Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) that is below the total SCA rate. In 2007, SCA members set their lowest rate ever with a TRIR of 5.86. Bollinger’s rate for 2007 was 3.20.

Bollinger Re-Delivers Elsa Leigh To Aries Marine

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., Lafayette, La. While it looks like a new vessel, Elsa Leigh is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper after an extensive renovation at Bollinger’s Morgan City shipyard. The new name is in honor of Elsa Leigh, the four year-old daughter of Courtney B. Ramsay, vice-president of Aries Marine. “This is the kind of project we love,” said Donald “Boysie” Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger.

Delivery: Bollinger Delivers the "New" Elsa Leigh

Bollinger Shipyards last month re-delivered the 254-ft. supply boat, Elsa Leigh, to Aries Marine Corp., of Lafayette, La., which is the new name for the former Seacor Clipper following extensive renovation at Bollinger's Morgan City shipyard. The new name is in honor of Elsa Leigh, the four year-old daughter of Courtney B. Ramsay, vice-president of Aries Marine. "This is the kind of project we love," said Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger. Much of the work involved mechanical systems in the hull and replacement of about 30 percent of the boat's steel. The vessel was brought up to ABS DPS 1, FiFi1 and GMDSS Area 3 certification. Her two main EMD engines were removed and rebuilt by NREC in Houma, La., who boosted their power from 1,250 hp each to 1,500 hp each.

First 123-ft Deepwater System Cutter Delivered

During a celebration to commemorate the delivery of the first Deepwater surface asset under the Integrated Deepwater System, the Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thomas H. Collins accepted delivery of the vessel and returned the CG Ensign to the USCG Cutter Matagorda today, Friday, March 5, 2004, at Bollinger Shipyards, in Lockport, La. The ceremony celebrated the delivery, which officially occurred on Monday, March 1, of the first newly completed 123-ft. patrol boat, USCGC Matagorda, manufactured by HBJV, a joint venture of Bollinger Shipyards LLC and VT Halter Marine, Inc of Gulfport, Miss.

Bollinger To Build 3 Boats for Chouest

Bollinger Shipyards signed a contract for three 145 ft. supply/utility boats with Edison Chouest Offshore. "It's wonderful to again be building boats for the Chouest organization," said Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, chairman and CEO of Bollinger. Vessels will meet new regulatory standards and will be less than 100 GT (U. S. Reg.) and less than 500 GT (ITC) registered tonnage. Each vessel will measure 145 x 36 ft. with a maximum draft of 11.5-ft. Normal operating draft will be eight ft. A pair of Cummins KTA-38MO diesel engines rated 750 bhp at 1,600 rpm were selected to power the vessel, driving Bollinger 72 x 57 in., four-blade, stainless steel propellers through Twin Disc MG5301 reverse/reduction gears with a ratio of 4.96:1.

Bollinger to Acquire Halter Marine

In what amounts to what would be an amazing turn of fortune over a number of years, Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has signed a contract, pursuant to approval of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, to acquire the assets and operations of Halter Marine from Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. Bollinger Shipyards has always been regarded as a well-run builder of quality vessels for the U.S. and foreign markets. However, less than a decade ago, the company was overshadowed by the enormous network of ship and boatyards that was Halter Marine. But Halter, with a mountain of debt and a tight offshore market, fell from the top, in concert with Bollinger's rise.

Bollinger Delivers First of Two Large Liftboats

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., has delivered the SUPERIOR STORM, the first of two nearly identical Bollinger designed 245-foot class liftboats being built at Bollinger Marine Fabricators, Inc., Amelia, La. for Superior Energy Services, Inc., Harvey, La. With leg lengths of more than 230-feet, SUPERIOR STORM can operate in water depths to 180-feet, and is equipped with a 250-ton capacity crane. The SUPERIOR STORM is 141-feet in length, with a molded hull beam of 67-feet and hull depth of 13-ft. It has 6,550 sq. ft. of useable deck space and a cargo lifting capacity of 1 million pounds. The boat’s secondary crane has a capacity of 30 tons. Air-conditioned accommodations have been provided for 42 people.

Bollinger To Build 245-ft. Liftboat for Montco Offshore

Following the 245-ft. class liftboat L/B MYRTLE, delivered two years ago from Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., to Montco Offshore, Inc., Golden Meadow, La., has led Montco to order another nearly identical vessel, L/B KAYD. Like its predecessor, the L/B KAYD will be built in Lockport and delivery is planned for September 2005. “When we took delivery of the L/B MYRTLE, said Lee Orgeron, president of Montco, we hailed it as a giant leap forward in the evolution of liftboats. Now we are excited that the L/B KAYD, named after my grandson, will be the next step in that evolution. The three cranes, all to be manufactured by Titan Industries…

ATB New Construction and Retrofits Highlight Order Books for Southern Shipyards

Late last year was a high water mark of sorts in the Articulated Tug-Barge (ATB) business. In December, Crowley Maritime of Seattle, Wash. took delivery of their fourth ATB, featuring a 9,280 HP tug and a 155,000 barrel barge. Bay Shipbuilding, Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. built the barge. and the tug by sister company Marinette Marine, Manitowoc, Mich. At about the same time on the east coast K-Sea Transportation was taking delivery of their fourth ATB unit from Bollinger Shipyards, Lockport, La. All four of these new units featured new 80,000-100,000 barrel barges and existing tugs fitted with the JAK coupler system. In 2004, ATB construction has slowed a bit, but several companies continue contracting for retrofitted and new ATB units.

Bollinger Promotes Satches

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, La., announced the promotion of Jodi Satches to Vice President of the newly established Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Department. As vice president, Satches will now assume overall responsibility for safety operations as well as maintain her duties with environmental services. The announcement was made by Donald "Boysie" Bollinger, Bollinger chief executive officer, who said, "Jodi's leadership ability and operational experience make an excellent fit for this new position. Satches joined Bollinger in 2005 as Director of Environmental Services. She holds a Bachelors of Science – Microbiology, and a Masters of Science – Environmental Toxicology from Louisiana State University.

Bollinger to Build Two for Bouchard

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. of Lockport, La., and Bouchard Coastwise Management, Corp., Hicksville, N.Y., one of the largest operators of double hull articulated tug/barge (ATB) units in the United States, signed a contract for Bollinger to build two double-hull, ocean-going barges that meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA'90). These two additions will give Bouchard 14 OPA'90 barges in its fleet. This addition to the Bollinger yards portfolio, will bring the delivered OPA'90 barge count to 33 when both units are delivered. Following on the success of the recent Bollinger delivered ATB's, 110,000 barrel B. No.225 with tug Jane A. Bouchard and delivery of the 145,000 barrel B. No.242 with the tug Morton S.

Bouchard’s B.No. 225, sister hull to the announced newbuilds, B. No. 280 and B.No. 205, travels down the Mississippi River on her maiden voyage following delivery from Bollinger. Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. of Lockport, Louisiana and Bouchard Coastwise Management, Corp., Hicksville, N.Y., one of the largest operators of double hull articulated tug/barge (ATB) units in the United States, signed a contract for Bollinger to build two double-hull, ocean-going barges that meet the requirements of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (OPA’90). These two additions will give Bouchard fourteen OPA’90 barges in their fleet.
