Solstad Offshore's CSVs Win Deals in Asia, South America

Norwegian offshore vessel owner Solstad Offshore has secured new contracts for two of its subsea vessels (CSV). CSV “Normand Baltic” has been awarded a 180-day contract for providing “Walk to Work” services on an unnamed offshore wind project in Asia. The contract will start in October 2023.CSV “Normand Samson” has been hired for a period of a minimum of 260 days to support a field development project in South America with start in in the first quarter 2024. "Commercial terms between the parties are in line with present market conditions for this type of vessels.

Samson to Acquire Folch Ropes

Samson, a Wind River Holdings company, entered into a purchase agreement with Folch Ropes, S.A. For 144 years, Samson has been a leader in the development and manufacture of high-performance ropes. Samson is headquartered are in Ferndale, Washington.Folch Ropes is a Spanish manufacturing company headquartered in Llinars del Vallès Barcelona. Folch began manufacturing braided ropes for the steel industry in 1942 and has enjoyed four generations of family ownership.Both companies have had a long history of success in the rope business with strong brands and are aligned with operational excellence and manufacturing quality products, including ISO 9001: 2015 certifications.

Video: Injured Crewman Airlifted from Containership Near Galveston

An injured crewman was airlifted from a containership in the Houston Ship Channel near Galveston, Texas, on Friday.The U.S. Coast Guard said its watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston received a notification at 1 p.m. from the Houston Pilots aboard the 1,099-foot, Malta-registered containership CMA CGA Samson, stating a crew member had fallen and sustained a severe lower leg injury. Ocean Group Inks 10-year Towage Deal with Port of Vancouver

Ocean Group announced it has signed a 10-year agreement with the Port of Vancouver to provide port towing services at the two Roberts Bank terminals, Deltaport and Westshore Terminals. Starting July 19, Ocean Group will mobilize two Damen ASD Tug 2813 tugs equipped with fire fighting systems and IMO Tier III engines.Ocean Group began operations in the Port of Vancouver in March 2020 with two tugs. Since then, the company has increased the number of its tugs present in this territory with the arrival of new tugs, and then with the acquisition of Samson Tugboats.

'Major' Oilfield Service Firm Books Solstad Offshore's CSV for South America Work

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Solstad Offshore has won a contract for its construction support vessel Normand Samson.The CSV Normand Samson was chartered by a major oil service firm for a minimum of 350 days, with the possibility to extend for an additional 150 days, according to the company. Solstad did not say who the client was.The contract will start during Q2 2022. "The vessel will be utilized on a field development project in South America," Solstad Offshore said.Built in 2009, the 121,5 meters long Normand Samson can accommodate 100 people aboard.

Car Carrier Grounds Near Cape Charles

A 760-foot car carrier vessel ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay, on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Virginia received a report that the Norwegian-flagged Tirranna ran aground near the Cape Charles Anchorage at approximately 3:30 a.m. The vessel was heading southbound on its way from Baltimore to Savannah, Ga.The Coast Guard launched a team aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Station Cape Charles to provide an initial assessment of the situation. Scorpio Sells Another Bulk Carrier

Scorpio Bulkers announced it has sold another bulk carrier, marking its seventh ship sale since revealing plans to pivot away from dry bulk shipping toward offshore wind services.The Monoco-based shipowner said on Thursday it reached a deal with an unnamed, unaffiliated third party to sell the 2016-built Ultramax SBI Zeus for approximately $18.5 million.Since September 28, Scorpio Bulkers has also sold SBI Hera, SBI Phoenix, SBI Samson, SBI Conga, SBI Sousta and SBI Rock. Scorpio Bulkers Sells Another Ultramax Amid Offshore Wind Pivot

Scorpio Bulkers said on Thursday it has sold another Ultramax bulk carrier, the sixth ship to leave its fleet since the Monoco-based shipowner announced plans to pivot away from dry bulk shipping toward offshore wind services. The sale of the 2016-built SBI Hera to an unnamed unaffiliated third party for $18.5 million follows close on the heels of Wednesday's sale of the 2017-built Ultramaxes SBI Phoenix and SBI Samson for $34 million. Scorpio Bulkers Sells Two Ultramax Vessels

Scorpio Bulkers, Inc. announced Wednesday that it has entered into agreements with an unaffiliated third party to sell two 2017-built Ultramax bulk carriers for approximately $34 million as the dry bulk shipping company continues its transition to offshore wind services.The ships, SBI Phoenix and SBI Samson, are expected to be handed over to the unnamed buyer in the fourth quarter, Scorpio said. Both vessels were built at China's Chengxi Shipyard.The bulk carriers are the fourth and fifth Scorpio has sold since its August announcement revealing plans to enter into a shipbuilding contract with South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to build a wind turbine installation vessel for delivery in 2023, with options to build three further similar vessels.

USCG Suspends Search for 63-y/o Mariner

The Coast Guard suspended its search for a 63-year-old missing mariner on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia, Sunday night.The missing 63-year-old man, Paul Youngk, was reportedly aboard his vessel when it began taking on water and eventually capsized early Sunday morning.An MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and the crews of Coast Guard Cutter Hawk and Station Portsmouth searched a total of 152 square miles in 11.6 hours.Also assisting in the search was the Virginia Marine Resources Commission…

COSCO Shares Climb After OOIL Bid

COSCO Shipping Holdings Co Ltd saw its stock climb on Monday after bidding $6.3 billion for a Hong Kong peer, a deal that would see it become the world's third-biggest container shipper and underline China's supply-chain ambitions. The offer for Orient Overseas International Ltd (OOIL) comes as China's government pushes to raise the country's profile in global shipping, which dovetails with its Belt and Road initiative aimed at increasing China's influence over distribution from Asia to Europe. Beijing merged two shippers last year to form COSCO Shipping which, after the latest deal, will rise from fourth to rank only behind Denmark's Maersk Line and Switzerland's Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC).

Salvors to Raise Sunken Tug in Alaska

A crane barge that will be used to hoist a sunken tug in Sitka, Alaska has arrived to the wreck site. The evolution to raise the tug is expected to take up to 10 days, the U.S. Coast Guard said. U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Sitka and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation have been monitoring the out-of-service tug Powhatan, which sank at a pier in Sitka, April 19 and slid approximately 300 yards down a bank ultimately settling in 160 to 180 feet of water. The tug's owner, Samson Tug and Barge Company, contracted Southeast Alaska Petroleum for pollution recovery and Alaska Commercial Divers to plug vents and survey the vessel underwater. Since the sinking, an estimated 400 gallons of mixed product has released from the sunken tug.

Out of Service Tug Sinks in Alaska

An out of service tug has sunk at the Samson Tug and Barge Company pier in Sitka, Alaska. The 81-foot vessel Powhatan owned by Samson Tug and Barge Company sank at the pier on the evening of April 19 and subsequently slid under the pier approximately 200 yards along an underwater ledge. U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Sitka and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation personnel are responding. Samson Tug and Barge Company is developing a salvage plan and has contracted Southeast Alaska Petroleum Response Organization for oil recovery and Hanson Maritime to dive and survey the tug. Damaged Tug Heads to Seattle for Repair

The U.S. Coast Guard said it has green lighted a transit plan for the damaged tug Samson Mariner to head south from Ketchikan, Alaska for repairs in Seattle. The vessel departed on Tuesday accompanied by an escort tug.   Samson Mariner was damaged and spilled approximately 1,100 gallons of fuel when it ran aground on February 15 while towing a barge near Rosa Reef in north Tongass Narrows, Alaska.   No sheen or further pollution has been reported.   The barge, St Elias, received temporary repairs in Ketchikan. The Coast Guard approved a plan for a tug owned by Brusco Tug & Barge Co to tow St Elias and continue to Dutch Harbor. Permanent repairs will be made when St Elias returns to Seattle.

Tug Grounding Causes Fuel Spill in Alaska

Emergency personnel continue their response to the tug boat Samson Mariner which ran aground and spilled fuel while towing a barge in the vicinity of Rosa Reef in north Tongass Narrows, Alaska, Wednesday evening. Approximately 1,100 gallons of diesel spilled from the tug prior to being patched by Alaska Commercial Divers Wednesday night. The Samson Mariner has been refloated and is anchored in Ward Cove alongside the barge it was towing. A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew conducted an overflight with Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan personnel aboard to determine the extent of any possible sheen or environmental impacts. A sheen has been reported in the area and SEAPRO has been tasked with fuel containment and recovery using boom and absorbent pads.
