NOIA Appoints Four to BoD

National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) Chairman David Welch has appointed four new members to the association’s Board of Directors. The appointments were announced today during NOIA’s fall meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where the association is commemorating 45 years of commitment to America’s offshore energy industry. Today, the oil and gas industry, long centered in the Gulf of Mexico, produces 17% of America’s domestic oil and 5% of our domestic natural gas, while off the coast of Rhode Island, America’s first offshore wind farm is providing energy to residents and businesses on Block Island. “The offshore energy industry has come a long way in the last 45 years.

WWII Mine Disposed of at Site of World’s Largest Offshore Windfarm

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialist Ramora UK (www.ramorauk.com) reports that it has safely disposed of an unexploded World War II mine onsite at one of the world’s largest offshore windfarm. The four-man Ramora UK team used a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to place a countermining charge next to the 1,500lb (680kg) mine which had been assessed as high-risk due to damage previously sustained to it. Throughout the procedure a 1,500m safety zone was maintained to protect other vessels in the area.

Lockheed Martin Awarded Contract

Lockheed Martin will provide the Arab Republic of Egypt with a fully integrated maritime search and rescue (SAR) system for the Gulf of Suez (GOS) under a $50 million contract signed today in Cairo. The SAR system will complement the Gulf of Suez Vessel Traffic Information Management System (VTIMS) provided by Lockheed Martin under a 1998 contract and provide the Egyptian Ministry of Transport with all the necessary capabilities to manage and respond to any maritime distress in the Gulf of Suez. The SAR contract was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister of Egypt, His Excellency Dr. Atef Ebaid; the Minister of Transportation, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim El-Demairi; U.S. Ambassador C.

BP Amoco To Update Mammoth GOM Oil Discovery Soon

BP Amoco Plc said it should be able to provide an update on its giant Crazy Horse deepwater oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico when two appraisal wells are completed during the next couple of months. "I would say the preliminary results are very encouraging and hopefully we will have some news in the near future," BP Amoco's Houston region Vice President David Welch told reporters after addressing the American Petroleum Institute's Houston chapter. The London-based company announced the Crazy Horse discovery last year, estimating that it contained reserves of at least one billion barrels of oil, making it the biggest ever deepwater discovery in the Gulf of Mexico.
