Anglo American Takes Delivery of Final LNG Dual-fuel Bulk Carrier

Anglo American has taken delivery of its 10th and final dual-fueled bulk carrier powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), the company said on Wednesday.The capesize-plus LNG dual-fueled bulk carriers have been built and delivered over the last three years from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co.

Diana Shipping Sells Its Oldest Vessel

Diana Shipping on Tuesday announced it has reached a deal to sell its oldest vessel, an 18-year-old panamax bulk carrier.The Greek shipowner said it has reached a memorandum of agreement through one of its subsidiaries to sell the 76,942 dwt vessel Artemis to an undisclosed third-party buyer for $12.99 million. Salvage Tug Koyo Maru Built for Nippon Salvage

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group company christened and launched a salvage tug being built for Nippon Salvage Co., Ltd. The ceremony took place at the Enoura Plant of MHI's Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The vessel, named Koyo Maru, is scheduled for handover to Nippon Salvage in June 2024 following completion of outfitting work and sea trials.Koyo Maru measures 80.6 x 15.5 m with gross tonnage of approximately 3,000.

Yanmar Developing Hydrogen-fueled Four-stroke Engine

Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd. (YPT), a subsidiary of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., has embarked on the development of a hydrogen-fueled four-stroke high-speed engine for power generation for coastal vessels in Japan as part of the Nippon Foundation’s zero emission ship demonstration experiment. The engine utilizes hydrogen as a fuel, emitting no CO2 during combustion.In parallel with the hydrogen engine development, YPT will also work on the creation of a hydrogen engine-compatible hybrid electric propulsion vessel, combining hydrogen engine generators with batteries.

Greek shipowner Performance Shipping Inc. announced it has signed two shipbuilding contracts with China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd. (CSTC) and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Japan's NYK Line said Thursday its NYK Bulk & Project Carriers Ltd. (NBP), Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (OSHIMA), and Sumitomo Corporation (SUMITOMO) had signed a memorandum of understanding to study, design, and construct the world’s first Handymax bulk carrier (ammonia dual fuel type) dedicated to the transport of copper products, that will reduce CO2 emissions to zero.The MoU signing comes just a year after Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO), a Chilean state-owned company and one of the world's leading copper producers, and NYK Bulk & Project Carriers Ltd.

Very Large LPG/Ammonia Carrier Phoenix Harmonia Enters Service

The Phoenix Harmonia, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered very large LPG/ammonia carrier, has been constructed by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and delivered to MOL Energia Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group, on September 29.Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, supported Namura and contributed to the delivery of the vessel, based on a technical cooperation agreement executed between the two companies in August 2021.

ClassNK released "Guidelines for Shipboard CO2 Capture and Storage Systems". The guidelines include provisions for indicating the classnotation for vessels equipped with CO2 capture and storage systems or designed as "ready" for their installation.In addition to fuel transition, interest in capturing CO2 from ships' exhaust gas is growing as a way to reduce GHG emissions, and the development of onboard systems for capturing and storing CO2 is being undertaken. MOL's Ammonia-powered Bulk Carrier Design Gets AIP from ClassNK

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and trading company Mitsui & Co., Ltd. announced they have received approval in principle (AIP) from classification society ClassNK for the design of a large ammonia-powered bulk carrier.MOL and Mitsui jointly determined the size and specifications of the vessel, and both companies entrusted Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for design of the vessel. The AIP covers a 210,000 DWT Capesize bulker.The design calls for a main engine fueled by ammonia, which emits no CO2 when burned, thereby achieving zero CO2 emissions during the voyage.

MacGregor to Deliver RoRo Equipment to Two K Line Pure Car and Truck Carriers

Cargotec's MacGregor said Thursday it had won a large order to supply RoRo equipment for two 6,900 CEU Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC).The ships will be built at Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. for K Line (Kawasaki  Kisen Kaisha, Ltd) in Japan.The first vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the owner in the first quarter of 2025 and the second in the second quarter of 2025. MacGregor’s scope of supply consists of design, supply, and installation assistance for a stern ramp, a side ramp, three sets of movable ramps, a ramp cover, and a mobile deck lifter for each vessel.

Greek shipowner the Angelicoussis Group announced its dry bulk division has taken delivery of its first dual-fuel Capesize bulk carrier.Ubuntu Unity was officially handed over to its Maran Dry Management (MDM) from Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (SWS) on February 28, 2023.The newbuild is 299.9 meters long with a 47.5-meter beam and cargo capacity of about 190,000 metric tons. It is classed by DNV and flies the Greek flag.A sister vessel, Ubuntu Community, is scheduled to be delivered to MDM from SWS in the coming months.

SWS Launches New Tanker for Enesel

Greek shipping company the Enesel Group announced the launch of its new Aframax/LR2 tanker Kavafis.The newbuild, which is currently being built by China's Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd (SWS), is the first in a series of three vessels ordered by the Enesel Group. It was launched on December 30, Enesel said.The vessel will be classed by Lloyd’s Register and built to Hellenic flag requirements.It is scheduled for delivery in April 2023.
