Post-Brexit, Lawmakers Call for Royal Yacht's Return

As Britain sets sail in uncharted waters on the lookout for post-Brexit trade deals, lawmakers and a former diplomat have earmarked two key weapons: the Duchess of Cambridge and a new royal yacht. P&O Reported To Take Over New York Container Terminal

British shipping giant P&O is poised to take over operations at New York's largest container terminal, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported. It said P&O would pay $650 million for a 30-year concession on the terminal at Port Newark, which is the second largest container port in the U.S. by throughput. It said the group was also negotiating a new 56-acre container terminal deal in New Orleans, and the acquisition of a third terminal in Buenos Aires.

British MoD Denies Report of Royal Navy Ship Reductions

The British Ministry of Defense (MoD) refuted a report that the Royal Navy would reduce the number of ships due to budget pressure. The Sunday Telegraph reported earlier in the day that the MoD has drawn up secret proposals to slash the number of ships in the Royal Navy. The MoD has produced a plan to decommission five warships starting next April, which would reduce the Navy's capability to the level where it could carry out only one small-scale operation, said the report, citing an email from a whistle blowing official inside the department. The official gave details of a disagreement over the allocation of money to the MoD over the next three years, said the report.
