Kongsberg Tech for China-built Offshore Wind Turbine Installation Unit

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has signed a Letter of Intent with Chinese shipbuilder Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore to deliver a large technology package for the BT-220IU Wind Turbine Installation Unit.The offshore installation vessel BT-220IU is to be constructed for the Norway-based company OIM Wind, with an option for another vessel of identical design. The vessel, expected to be delivered in 2022, will be suitable for transporting and installing multiple sets of next- and future-generation wind turbines…

Dutch crane specialist Huisman has signed a letter of intent with China's Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore for the delivery of a 2,600mt Leg Encircling Crane (LEC) for OIM Wind’s BT-220IU offshore wind installation unit.OIM Wind last year signed an EPC contract with CIMC for the construction of 1 + 1, BT-220IU Wind Installation Units, with the first unit scheduled for delivery by the end of 2022.Huisman said that its letter of intent with CIMC includes the option for the delivery of a LEC for a second installation unit, as well.

Baker Technology Buys Stake in CH Offshore

New Addition to DNV GL’s Veracity Platform

DNV GL will add a new third party software solution to Veracity, its open industry data platform, that is based on cleaned data collected from 80 000 oil and gas wells. AGR, the leading well design and drilling project management firm, has agreed to host its iQx software on the platform, which contains information that is vital to companies selecting locations of wells. Users, such as drilling engineers, can access information on numerous metrics including geology and bit performance, enabling them to make smarter and more efficient operational decisions. AGR has drilled more than 500 wells and developed the solution in reaction to the inefficiencies created by the lack of standardized, high quality information on comparable wells.

Keppel Explores Sale of Jack-up Rigs to Borr Drilling

Singapore yard Keppel Corporation is considering a sale of jack-up rigs to Norwegian offshore drilling contractor Borr Drilling, reports The Business Times. The world’s biggest builder of oil rigs is seeking to offload six jack-up rigs for up to US$960 million to the Oslo-listed drilling firm headed by Tor Olav Trøim, said the report. BT also reported that Keppel Capital has already hooked up with structured finance provider Clifford Capital to potentially extend a sale-and-lease-back arrangement for at least one jack-up contracted by Grupo R. The global offshore oil drilling sector is slowly trying to emerge from an industry downturn since the oil price crash.

BTӦ Orders Damen ASD Tug

Sweden-based BogserTeam Ӧresund (BTӦ), part of MarCon gruppen, recently signed a contract with the Damen Shipyards Group for the delivery of a Damen ASD Tug 2810. MarCon gruppen is currently experiencing growth and is undertaking a program of renewal and expansion to its fleets. The ASD 2810 is currently being built on series at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The completed vessel will be delivered to the client in June 2016, after which she will sail under her own keel to Sweden.

Liebherr Sells Knuckle Boom Cranes to China

Liebherr offshore crane division has recently signed a contract with long-time partner DALIAN SHIPYARD (DSIC Offshore) for two state-of-the-art ram luffing knuckle boom cranes of the type RL-K 4200-100 LIT to be delivered for the new high-level semi-submersible BT 4000. "We have already successfully delivered around 40 machines to DSIC to date, but this contract marks a new milestone for us at the Chinese offshore market," informs Gordon Clark, Sales Director of the Liebherr offshore crane division.

East to Succeed Rishton as Rolls-Royce CEO

John Rishton will retire as chief executive of Rolls-Royce on July 2, 2015 and will be succeeded by Warren East, whose appointment follows an extensive international search, the company announced today. Warren East was CEO of ARM Holdings from 2001 to 2013. Warren has been a nonexecutive director of Rolls-Royce since January 2014, also serving as a nonexecutive director on the boards of BT, De La Rue, Dyson, Micron Inc. and Digital Catapult. His intention is to stand down from all but one of his current roles as a nonexecutive Director, in line with Rolls-Royce company policy. Commenting on his appointment, East said, “[Rolls-Royce] is well positioned in growth markets, with world class engineering skills and a proud record of innovation and delivery.

Two Singaporean Boats Detained by Indonesia

Two Singapore-registered vessels have been detained in Indonesia the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said. The sole Singaporean who was caught along with those ships is a marine surveyor and he returned to Singapore on March 16. MPA also said it was assisting Indonesia in the investigations of the two separate incidents. Recent media reports had quoted that four Singapore-registered vessels and four Singaporeans were detained. Indonesia said it had detained a total of four Singapore-registered ships in two incidents in early March, each of which involved boats that allegedly did not have proper papers. MPA clarified that only two vessels are Singapore-registered and only one person detained is a Singaporean marine surveyor.

Strong Support for Frost & Sullivan 'Trail Charity Run'

Held on 23 August 2014, Frost & Sullivan Singapore’s 9th edition of the ‘Frost the Trail’ run saw 165 teams, 95 individuals and over 750 runners gather at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park to run in support of the underprivileged. ‘Frost the Trail’ saw both avid and novice runners hitting the winding trails of MacRitchie in the cool morning air amidst lush greenery. Runners participated in one of two categories – the 5 km team race as well as the 10 km individual race. In total, Frost the Trail Singapore 2014 helped raised more than SGD140k, with 100% of proceeds going directly to this year’s adopted charity, Bright Hill Evergreen Home. Bright Hill Evergreen Home is a 250 bed, accredited, 100 per cent non-profit Nursing Home for the destitute and poor.

The contracts have options for a total of 8 additional units.

The contracts are for two new Frigstad D90 Design drilling rigs and one Bassoe Technology BT-UDS Design drillship. The total value of the contracts is in excess of MNOK 150. The contracts have options for a total of 8 additional units. The rigs are destined for operation in the burgeoning Brazilian offshore oil and gas sector and Gulf of Mexico. Both projects are design according to DnV Dynpos Autro, IMO DP Class 3, and will operate in water depths up to 3000 meters.

ABB Breakthrough for Enhanced Reliability Drillship

ABB, a power and automation technology group, has secured an offshore marine industry contract covering electrical power and propulsion systems onboard a DP class 3 Drill Ship to be conferred with "Enhanced Reliability" and  Dynpos Autro notation from Det Norske Veritas(DNV). The contract covers installations onboard a BT-UDS dynamic positioned ultra-deep water drill ship ordered by Sigma Drilling, the joint venture between Norway’s Skeie Technology and Houston-based Vantage Drilling, from STX Offshore and Shipbuilding. The vessel, to be built at South Korea’s STX Jinhae yard, is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2015. Cruise Ship Passengers Hit by Virus Outbreak

Royal Caribbean cruise ship 'Vision of the Seas' hit by virus; 105 passengers, 3 crew sick. The 108 people on board fell sick with a gastrointestinal illness believed to be a norovirus on the cruise ship which docked in Port Everglades, Florida, at the end of an 11-day trip, reports BT Premium. The outbreak was the latest black eye for the cruise industry, trying to regain its sea legs after several high-profile mishaps, but Royal Caribbean informed that those sickened had responded well to the over-the-counter medicine they were given. The ship and the cruise terminal have been thoroughly sanitised and the cruise liner departed later on Friday as scheduled on a new sailing. The 915-foot-long Vision of the Seas was ending a Caribbean cruise that left Port Everglades on Feb 25, 2013.
