NOAA’s Beacon Registraion Surpasses Half Million

ACR Electronics, Inc., shares a milestone registration update from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) database which recently hit a record number of 500,000 registered 406 MHz emergency beacons. The beacon to make that milestone was an ACR Electronics ResQLink Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), owned by a Coast Guard Auxiliary member in Rhode Island. Shortly after that the 500,001st beacon successfully registered was an ARTEX Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT). Beacons come in three designs used for different applications. Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs) which are mounted on boats, Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) used by outdoors enthusiasts and Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELTs), which are installed on airplanes.

ACR Electronics Turns 60

ACR Electronics, a Drew Marine Company, is celebrating its diamond anniversary this year. Drew Marine Acquires NAL Research Corporation

Drew Marine, a provider of technical solutions and services for the maritime, defense and aviation industries, announced its acquisition of NAL Research Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of Iridium tracking and communications equipment. The financial terms of the acquisition were not released. NAL Research will team up with ACR Electronics, Inc., a brand of Drew Marine known as a leader in safety and survival technologies. The acquisition allows Drew Marine to expand its footprint into the Iridium tracking and communication product offering. NAL brings an experienced research and development team that specializes in Iridium satellite modems and tracking terminals from design through integration for the defense, research and commercial sectors.

J.F. Lehman Sells Northeast Ship Repair

J.F. Lehman & Company, a middle-market private equity firm focused on the maritime, defense and aerospace sectors, announced today that it has sold its portfolio company, Northeast Ship Repair, Inc. to affiliates of Plexus Capital and NewSpring Capital. The sale of Northeast Ship Repair follows J.F. Lehman's recent sales of ACR Electronics and Drew Marine, both announced on November 19. Northeast Ship Repair is a provider of large vessel maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the U.S. Government noncombatant fleet and commercial customers.

Jordan Hanssen, recently rescued OAR Northwest transatlantic rower, sponsored by the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) made great efforts to visit his rescuers at two USCG stations for Military Appreciation Month last week. Both the Clearwater and Miami Coast Guard Air Stations involved in the early April rescue received a gratitude visit from Jordan, who also presented them with a thank you plaque. But what really resonated with the Miami and Clearwater rescue crews were the homemade cookies sent to them by Jordan’s mother, which also included a touching letter expressing her gratitude.

ACR Electronics Inc., has promoted Chris Wahler to Director of Marketing. A 16-year veteran in marine industry merchandise management, Wahler had served as the company’s Product Line Manager for the last year. Wahler came to ACR from West Marine Products, where he served as regional merchandise manager for the Southeastern U.S. At West Marine Products, whaler coordinated and mangaed major merchandising initiative resulting in the highest regional sales percentage increase throughout the chain. In his new position, Wahler’s responsibilities will include the planning and coordination of promotions, advertising, public relations and sales literature and collateral materials as well as the development of new market opportunities.
