Burger Boat Delivers New Ferry to EUPTA in Michigan

Manitowoc, Wis. shipbuilder Burger Boat Company announced it has delivered a new car/passenger ferry vessel to the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority (EUPTA), located in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.The 92-foot U.S.-made steel ferry, Neebish Island III, will operate year-round on the St. Mary’s River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula between Barbeau, Mich., and Neebish Island. The vesselwas designed by Seacraft Design, LLC of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.

Burger Boat Awarded New Ferry Build

Manitowoc, Wis., shipbuilder Burger Boat Company announced it has begun work on a new vehicle and passenger ferry for the Eastern Upper Peninsula Transportation Authority (EUPTA), located in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.Due to launch Summer 2022, the 92-foot steel ferry will operate year-round on the St. Mary’s River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula between Barbeau, Mich., and Neebish Island. The ferry was designed to operate in the harsh winter environment and through the solid ice conditions it will encounter on its route.The ferry is designed by Seacraft Design, LLC of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.

Burger Boat Launches Wendella Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company announced the launch of P/V Lucia, an 89-foot steel passenger vessel for Wendella Sightseeing Company, Inc. Lucia, designed by Timothy Graul Marine Design of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., was launched into the Manitowoc River Friday, May 29 with her owners, the Burger staff and the Manitowoc community in attendance. Lucia is styled after other vessels in Wendella's fleet and will be used for its Combined Lake and River Tour, the Chicago River Architecture Tour, specialty cruises and private events.

Burger Boat Delivers R/V Arcticus

Burger Boat Company delivered the R/V Arcticus, a 78-foot research vessel for the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on Friday, October 17, 2014. The Arcticus replaces the 38-year-old R/V Grayling and brings the USGS Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) large vessel fleet up-to-date. The Arcticus will be stationed at the USGS base in Cheboygan, Michigan and incorporates modern marine standards and state-of-the-art technology to more safely and effectively conduct fisheries research.

New Research Vessel Delivered on the Great Lakes

The new oceanographic research and fisheries assessment vessel, Arcticus, completed her sea trials and was delivered to the U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Science Center on October 17. The Arcticus, designed by JMS Naval Architects (JMS) and constructed at Burger Boat Company, replaces the R/V Grayling and becomes the newest member of a five-vessel fleet owned and operated by the Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. JMS completed the concept and contract design and provided all technical representation at the shipyard during construction.

Burger Boat to Build New Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company announced that it has received a contract for the construction of an 89-foot (27-meter) steel passenger vessel for Wendella Sightseeing Company, Chicago, Ill. Styled after other vessels in Wendella's fleet, this vessel will be used for their signature Combined Lake and River Tour, the Chicago River Architecture Tour, specialty cruises and private events. The 89-foot (27-meter) steel passenger vessel provides an enclosed, climate controlled main deck cabin where guests will find a striking black granite bar and room for socializing.

Burger Boat Delivers Chicago Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company announced the delivery of a 98-foot steel passenger vessel to Chicago's First Lady Cruises in Chicago. The vessel, Chicago’s Classic Lady, was designed by Seacraft Design, LLC of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. Chicago’s Classic Lady departed the Burger shipyard Saturday afternoon, May 10, 2014, on her delivery voyage to the Chicago waterfront, arriving early the next morning. Built by Burger Boat Company of Manitowoc, Wisc., Chicago’s Classic Lady is powered by two Caterpillar C12 main engines and has two Caterpillar C4.4 generators.

Burger Boat Company, celebrating its 150th anniversary, announce the appointment of Thom Conboy as its Commercial Director. As Commercial Director, Thom will be working closely with the shipyard in Manitowoc, WI to secure new construction, refit and repair projects as well as heading its yacht brokerage and charter division at Burger Yacht Sales. Thom's yachting career spans over 30 years. He is an avid sailor and held positions as captain, project manager, yacht builder, shipyard owner and superyacht broker.

ISS Names Board of Directors

Change in Organization’s Bylaws Specify Revised Board Tenure and Structure. The ISS (International Superyacht Society) announces its 2012-2015 Board of Directors and Past Presidents Council. ISS elections are held annually by peer selection. During 2011, ISS membership ratified changes to the Association’s Bylaws which now state that a total of 24 elected Board members will serve three-year terms. During the 2012, 2013 and 2014 election cycles, the ISS Board will be in transition. For the current year and based on a democratic voting system, ISS members have awarded eight Board positions for three years and four Board positions for one-year terms with the opportunity to re-run for the 2013-2016 term.

Burger Hosts Great Lakes Gathering

Burger Boat Company held its first Great Lakes Gathering July 22-24, 2011 at Bay Harbor Resort, Bay Harbor, Michigan for yacht owners, their guests, captains and crew. A variety of yachts, ranging from a 1937 36’ Burger to a 2003 127’ Tri-Deck Burger, cruised to Bay Harbor for the three-day event. Owners and their guests had the opportunity to meet the Burger staff and join other attendees at various events, including a dinner with a bonfire on the shores of Little Traverse Bay, a private luncheon in Harbor Springs, a Saturday evening Yacht Hop and an Owners and Captains Roundtable discussion.

Manitowoc, Wisconsin, U.S.A. – April 8, 2011 Burger Boat Company launches the R/V Coregonus, a 60’ Research Vessel for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. R/V Coregonus is replacing the R/V Barney Devine, a steel Fishing Tug built by Burger in 1937. SeaCraft Design in Sturgeon Bay, WI designed the R/V Coregonus for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to meet the demanding requirements of the department. Powered by twin Caterpillar C12 diesel engines, the all welded aluminum R/V Coregonus will provide a cruising speed of 20 knots.

Burger Boat Company has received a contract for the construction of Chicago’s Leading Lady, a 98-ft steel passenger vessel, for Chicago’s First Lady Cruises, Chicago, Ill. Chicago’s Leading Lady is styled after the 1920s luxury cruising yachts such as the former Presidential yacht Sequoia. Chicago’s First Lady Cruises will use the vessel for upscale private parties, wedding rehearsal dinners and corporate events, as well as, serve as an official vessel for the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. Burger Boat Company announced that Sycara IV, 151-ft Fantail Motor Yacht has been selected by the International Superyacht Society membership as a finalist for the 2010 International Superyacht Society Design Awards in the Power: 40-65m category. Each year the International Superyacht Society recognizes yacht owners, builders, designers, interior designers, naval architects and stylists at its annual awards gala. This year’s awards ceremony will be held Thursday October 28, 2010 during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
