Electronic Inclinometer for Tugboat Safety

Danish marine safety equipment manufacturer, Daniamant, has launched a tugboat version of its renowned Electronic Inclinometer, an advanced heel and pitch measuring device. The DanEI-300T fulfils the most recent Bureau Veritas Group’s regulations for escort tugboats and is approved by German BSH to the IMO (International Maritime Organization) performance standard MSC.363(92):2013. Bureau Veritas’ classification rules in the January 2019 edition stipulate that escort tugboats must be equipped with a calibrated heeling angle measurement system, otherwise referred to as an inclinometer.

Engine Monitoring Unit Wins NMEA Award

A device from multi-award winning NMEA specialists, Actisense, has been recognized with an award from the National Marine Electronics Association. Actisense has received an award from the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) in recognition of their popular EMU-1 (Engine Monitoring Unit). Winning the 2015 Product of Excellence Award, the accolade was presented to Actisense at METS 2015 in November, the world’s largest marine equipment trade show. The Actisense EMU-1 is a specialized analogue to NMEA 2000 Gateway which converts data from analogue engine senders into NMEA 2000.

NMEA Updates Installation Standards

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has published Edition 2014, Version 4.00 of the NMEA 0400 Installation Standard, which contains information on new technologies, updated sections and additional appendices. NMEA 0400 is a tool and reference guide for installing any piece of marine electronics equipment. Edition 2014, Version 4.00 includes two new sections—Black Box Installation and Cameras & Security Installation. Every section listed below was reviewed and updated by industry experts consisting of NMEA member manufacturers and NMEA accredited installers. Three new appendices were also added: NMEA 0183 Sentence Information, NMEA 2000 PGN Descriptions, and VHF/DSC Wiring Information.

NMEA Awards Top Electronic Makers

Marine electronics experts named 11 products in nine categories as winners of the 2014 NMEA Product Awards. Once again, Furuno USA was named Manufacturer of the Year--Support. The winners were announced at the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) International Marine Electronics Conference & Expo, held October 8-11 at the Sanibel Harbour Marriott in Fort Myers, Florida. Category winners are chosen by regional panels of NMEA members from around the country, hand picked by the NMEA Awards Committee for their extensive knowledge of marine electronics to create a level playing field for all product and manufacturer support nominations. National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) annually recognizes companies that have demonstrated innovation and excellence by selecting products that have stood out from competitors in terms of functionality, usability and quality. NMEA Accepts Resignation of President David Hayden

Bruce Angus to serve as interim executive director. David Hayden, president and executive director of the National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) since 2007, submitted his resignation to the organization’s board of directors at the conclusion of the NMEA’s International Marine Electronics Conference & Expo last week in Fort Myers, Florida. LightSquared Outlines Plan to Avoid GPS Interference

Marine electronics industry still has major concerns. NMEA Names KVHI's TracPhone V3 'Best Communication Product'

The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) recognizes KHVI for its TracPhone V3, the world's smallest maritime VSAT antenna. The KVH TracPhone V3 is designed to work with KVH's mini-VSAT Broadband satellite network which KVH built to provide customers with an  alternative to the Inmarsat service. Due to the mini-VSAT Broadband network's unique spread spectrum technology (similar to that used in the new high-powered 3G and 4G networks on land), KVH was able to develop the TracPhone V3, a system similar in size and cost to Inmarsat FleetBroadband equipment, but offering service up to ten times faster at broadband speeds of up to 2 Mbps, with airtime rates 1/10th the cost of Inmarsat.
