Gas produced from the offshore platforms in the UK North Sea is less carbon-intensive than LNG imported in the UK, the UK oil and gas regulator OGA said Tuesday.According to the OGA analysis, the production of natural gas from the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) creates less than half as much greenhouse gas as imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).Per the OGA, gas extracted from the UKCS has an average emission intensity of 22 kgCO2e/boe; while imported LNG has a significantly higher average intensity of 59 kgCO2e/boe.Worth noting…

CNOOC Diverted Two LNG Cargoes from Tianjin After Pipeline Fire

China's state-owned energy company CNOOC diverted two cargoes of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) after a pipeline fire in northern China's Tianjin, though imports were normal as of Monday, traders with knowledge of the matter said on Tuesday. Reuters reported on Dec. 28 that a natural gas pipeline in Tianjin was closed after it ruptured and caught fire. Two sources with knowledge of CNOOC's gas operations in Tianjin said CNOOC diverted the LNG cargoes after the accident on the pipeline, which is connected to a domestic gas consumer. "Imports are now back to normal," said one source, adding that the cargoes were sold back to the supplier under force majeure terms. The source did not give further details. A CNOOC press official was not immediately able to comment.

Petrobangla, Excelerate Energy Deal for LNG terminal

Petrobangla has signed an agreement with Excelerate Energy Singapore Pte Ltd to establish a floating storage and re-gasification unit (FSRU) at Maheshkhali to facilitate the supply of 500 mmcfd imported liquefied natural gas to the country. Canada Firm on LNG Tanker Stance

A federal study has concluded that LNG tankers could navigate Head Harbour Passage off the Bay of Fundy with little risk of accident, but the Canadian government continued to insist that it will bar U.S. tankers from the disputed waters. Proponents of the competing LNG plants proposed for northern Maine have seized on the study to argue that the Canadian government has exaggerated the safety concerns in order to favour domestic producers. The federal government has refused to co-operate with U.S. regulators who are reviewing three separate plans for terminals that will regasify imported liquefied natural gas and pipe it to markets in the U.S. Northeast. Earlier this year, Canada's Ambassador in Washington, Michael Wilson, wrote to U.S.

LNG Terminal Proposal Debated

Since hurricanes Katrina and Rita slammed the Gulf Coast nearly five months ago, the region has lost more than 610 billion cubic feet of natural gas production. There is no single solution to offsetting supply disruptions, but economists, industry executives and analysts advocate placing above-ground storage tanks along the nation's coasts where energy companies can store imported liquefied natural gas, also known as LNG. Once stored in these receiving terminals, the natural gas would be shipped via pipelines throughout the United States. Proponents say the tanks are safe, a vital means to energy companies' organic growth and a way to help ease a possible drag on the economy.
