Maritime Mobile: Icelandic Firm Chooses US Delivery Platform

Iceland's On-Waves selects Delaware's IMSWorkX feature rich service delivery platform for its cruise & merchant ship mobile telephone service. Maritime mobile operator On-Waves Ehf, a subsidiary of Icelandic global telecom service provider Siminn (formerly Iceland Telecom), has selected the XpressWorkX Service Delivery Platform from IMSWorkX, Inc. as a base from which to enhance its range of rich IP-based mobile telephony services on cruise ships and merchant marine vessels. The On-Waves customer base of vessels is diverse, multi-national and multi-lingual. "XpressWorkX is an ideal platform for carrier companies like On-Waves because it offers rapid customization and adaptation of existing applications as well as creation of new ones.

CapRock Selects Intelsat

Intelsat signed a new long term contract for capacity on the IA-6 satellite with CapRock Communications, a leading satellite communications service provider focused on remote industrial markets - including oilfield, construction, maritime, mining, and disaster relief. CapRock has over two decades of experience delivering business class communications, including secure corporate networking and telephony services to companies with operations in hard to reach places. CapRock will provide access to the IA-6 satellite via one of their six international teleports, with fully managed services controlled through their 24/7 global network operations center headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Iridium Satellite Launches Services

Iridium Satellite kicked off the commercial launch of its global satellite communications services at a press conference on March 28. The Iridium gateway is fully operational, enabling the delivery of truly mobile, truly global voice telephony services. The company will launch data services, including dial-up access and direct Internet connectivity, in June 2001, followed by short burst messaging services, which are expected to be available later in the year.
