Newport International Boat Show To Offer Exciting Program

Newport Exhibition Group, owners and producers of the Newport International Boat Show, announced today its '2014 At The Helm program' for this year’s Boat Show. The Newport International Boat Show will take place September 11-14, 2014 on the Newport Waterfront along America’s Cup Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. Confident Captain, Oceans Pros Event

On Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30PM, Confident Captain/Ocean Pros will be hosting Captain "Skip"  Strong who will recount the challenge, resolve and dramatic salvage operation that made history. Prentice “Skip” Strong, III, the author of “In Peril,” will speak about how he rescued the crew of the J.A. Orgeron and salvaged NASA’s $50m liquid fuel cell in the fall of 1994. Signed copies of “In Peril” will be made available for purchase at this event. The lecture will be held at the Confident Captain/Ocean Pros' maritime training facility located in the recently renovated Aquidneck Mill Building (449 Thames St. Suite 300). Cocktails and light appetizers will be provided and Admission is free. The doors will open at 6:00 pm; reservations are not available and space is limited.

Capt Sofrin Presents “Voyage of the Damned”

On Tuesday March 24, at 6:00pm, Confident Captain/Ocean Pros will be hosting Captain Will Sofrin who will be presenting his film entitled "Voyage of the Damned."  Captain Sofrin has experienced, survived, and made a movie about his unforgettable voyage from Newport, RI to San Diego, CA aboard the H.M.S. Rose. This film, nicknamed "Voyage of the Damned" by those who experienced it first hand, features extreme weather, dismasting under full sail, and other life threatening conditions about the 179 ft tall ship replica. On March 24, 2009 Captain Sofrin will be presenting a video that he has created from many hours of film shot during his treacherous voyage.

Tactical & First Responder Training

Confident Captain/Ocean Pros announced the launch of their Tactical and First Responder Training programs. These customized, hands-on programs are designed to help state, local, and federal agencies train their staff to become safe and effective First Response vessel operators. The courses are designed for all skill levels and are customizable in order to meet the varying demands of many different agencies. The demand for skilled, well-trained first response and patrol boat operators has seen a steady increase in recent years.
