Port of Seattle’s Cruise Season Underway

The Port of Seattle’s 2015 cruise season began May 1 at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal with the arrival of the Holland America Line Westerdam. The port expects 192 cruise ship calls this season, bringing an estimated 895,055 revenue passengers. “Each of these cruise ships contribute $2.5 million to the local economy, which comes out to over $400 million for this cruise season,” said Port Commissioner Stephanie Bowman. “We also want passengers to stay in the area an extra few days to spend more time and money in Washington state.

APM Completes $2m Refit Ahead of Schedule

Atlantic Pacific Marine has completed the $2 million refit of the Crystal Symphony three days ahead of schedule. A team of 130 men worked around the clock while she was drydocked in Hamburg during September. APM’s work scope included installing new ducting and GF pipework, engine room mechanical repairs and renewing the ship’s loading deck. In total, the project took just sixteen days. “We were delighted to complete three days early,” said APM Director, Philip Rodrigues. Crystal Symphony’s refit is just one of Atlantic Pacific Marine’s success stories this year.

Record 52 Cruise Ships to Visit Liverpool in 2014

Liverpool Cruise Terminal said it will break its previous record next year with 52 cruise ships scheduled to call, bringing 70,000 visitors to the city. Among the cruise liners making their Mersey debut in 2014 will be the new MS Europa 2, Ruby Princess and MSC Magnifica. The high points of Liverpool Cruise Terminal’s fast-growing popularity were revealed at a conference organized by the Mersey Maritime Group trade body. During the cruise terminal’s first full season of operation in 2008 there were just 13 calls, rising to 42 calls last year.

Carnival Corp Reports 4Q & Full Year Earnings

Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE: CUK) reported net income of $371m, or $0.47 diluted EPS, on revenues of $3.3b for its fourth quarter ended November 30, 2008. Net income for the fourth quarter of 2007 was $358m, or $0.44 diluted EPS, on revenues of $3.1b. Included in the 2008 fourth quarter results is a gain of $31m on the sale of Cunard Line's Queen Elizabeth 2. The company reported net income for the full year ended November 30, 2008 of $2.3b, or $2.90 diluted EPS, compared to net income of $2.4b, or $2.95 diluted EPS, for the prior year. Revenues for the full year 2008 increased to $14.6b from $13b for the prior year.
