Silversea Cruises Names Barbara Muckermann President & CEO

Barbara Muckermann, currently chief commercial officer at Silversea Cruises, will become the company’s next president and CEO, and will join parent company Royal Caribbean Group’s executive committee, effective January 1.Muckermann will succeed Roberto Martinoli, who will assume the role of senior advisor to Royal Caribbean Group president and CEO Jason Liberty.She becomes the second woman to lead one of Royal Caribbean Group’s three wholly-owned brands, and joins Celebrity Cruises president and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, and Royal Caribbean International president and CEO Michael Bayley.

Silver Moon, Silversea Cruises' newest ship in its "ultra-luxury" fleet, was christened Thursday in Athens, Greece. Silver Dawn Floated Out at Fincantieri's Ancona Shipyard

Shipbuilding giant Fincantieri said Thursday that it has launched Silversea Cruises’ new ship Silver Dawn at its yard in Ancona, Italy. The cruise ship will now enter the outfitting phase ahead of scheduled delivery in November 2021.Silver Dawn will become the 10th ship in the ultra-luxury cruise line’s fleet. Royal Caribbean Takes Full Ownership of Silversea Cruises

Royal Caribbean Group has acquired the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises, a specialist in the ultra-luxury and expedition cruising, after previously buying a two-thirds share of the cruise line in July 2018.The remaining one-third stake held by Heritage Cruise Holding Ltd. was paid for in the form of 5.2 million shares of Royal Caribbean Group common stock, which represents about 2.5% of the total common stock."Silversea has been a great fit for our company from the very first day," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

RINA Updates GREEN PLUS Notation

RINA updates GREEN PLUS notation to cover transhipment terminals. International classification society RINA has updated its industry-leading GREEN PLUS notation to include new potential sources of pollution involving seagoing ships and ships operating at fixed locations. GREEN PLUS is awarded to new vessels that make a significant investment in design solutions, onboard equipment and operational procedures which contribute to an improvement in environmental performance beyond the minimum levels required by regulation.

RINA Publishes Gas Fuel Notation

Genoa-based verification, certification and ship classification group RINA has published a new notation GAS FUELLED SHIPS which establishes requirements for the use of liquefied or compressed natural gas (LNG or CNG) on board ship as an alternative to traditional fuels. It is designed to  give the industry a regulatory tool to ensure that the arrangement and installation on board of machinery using this type of fuel are such as to provide a level of integrity, from the point of view of safety and reliability, equivalent to that of a conventional installation. Carnival Uses Intersleek 900

International Paint completed a hull coating project on Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Victory. The seven-year-old Italian-built vessel, one of a fleet of 23 passenger liners, was coated with Intersleek 900 during a recent drydocking in the Grand Bahamas Shipyard in Freeport, Grand Bahama, in late 2007. Carnival Valor is was due to be coated with Intersleek 900 in early 2008. Intersleek 900 was chosen following a long evaluation of the Intersleek 700 foul release system by Carnival Cruise Lines.

Carnival, International Paint Strike Deal

International Paint LLC, an Akzo Nobel company, announced a long-term agreement with Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines to supply the company’s fleet with Intersleek 700 foul release coating system. The agreement comes after Intersleek 700 was successfully used in a pilot program by Carnival beginning in 2001 to test the coating’s extended life performance in preventing organisms from adhering to underwater hulls. The program was expanded over the next five years. The consistent decrease in annual bunker costs over that time period led to the agreement that now includes 10 ships. Roberto Martinoli, Senior Vice President of Technical, Environmental and Safety Operations, performed a thorough evaluation of the pilot program, which initiated several rounds of negotiations.
