SAR Exercise in Pacific Ocean

A workshop, organized by International Maritime Organization (IMO) in collaboration with the Pacific Community (SPC), aimed to promote ratification of the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue, 1979 (SAR Convention) in the region, was held (22-26 July) in Hawaii, United States. The 8th Regional Pacific SAR (PacSAR) Workshop was to identify gaps and promote common best practices in SAR services. Ocean Rescue by Horizon Container Ship

The Amver participating ship Horizon Reliance rescued an 81 year old male from his sailboat four months after the ship rescued three Canadians in another daring Pacific rescue. The situation began as a possible medical evacuation from a sailboat 1,100 miles east north east of Ohau and resulted in personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard Fourteenth District using an Amver surface picture to identify and divert the U.S. flagged container ship to rescue the sick sailor. Coast Guard Foundation Honors CG’s Fourteenth District

Stonington, Conn. – The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that its 10th Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard’s (USCG) Fourteenth District will take place on Friday, April 6, 2012, in Honolulu, Hawaii. This event supports Coast Guard members of the Fourteenth District who protect the shores of Hawaii to the distant reaches of Guam and American Samoa. The gala will honor U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka and Mildred Akaka for their years of service to the men and women of the Coast Guard, and showcase Hawaii’s unique history and culture.

CG Foundation Hosts Tribute to Fourteenth District

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced that its Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Fourteenth District will take place on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. The event will highlight the major accomplishments of the fourteenth district from the Hawaiian Islands to Guam, and celebrate the service of all of the fourteenth district guardians who enforce maritime law, protect our homeland and preserve the environment. The tribute will raise funds to support the Coast Guard Foundation’s important projects and programs including the Shipmate Fund that provides morale, wellness, recreation and education funds for enlisted members.

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced that its 8th Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard’s Fourteenth District will take place on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Honoring local Coast Guard members who protect coastline shores from the Hawaiian Islands to Guam, the gala’s Chairman is Vic Angoco, vice president—Pacific of Matson Navigation and the Keynote Speaker is ADM Thad Allen, United States Coast Guard Commandant. Remarks will also be given by RADM Manson Brown, commander of the Fourteenth Coast Guard District, and Anne B. Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation.

Honoring local Coast Guard members who protect coastline shores from the Hawaiian Islands to Guam, the gala’s Chairman is Mr. Lee Webber, publisher and president of the Honolulu Advertiser; the Master of Ceremonies will be Mr. Michael Perry, a recognized name in Hawaiian broadcast history; and the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker will be former Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta.
