E-Crane Holds Technology Showcase in New Orleans
E-Crane agents and special guests attended the E-Crane Technology Showcase in New Orleans during the first week of December in conjunction with the International WorkBoat Show (IWBS). The three day event consisted of a dinner reception and presentations on the evening on Wednesday, December 3, as well as two site visits on the following days to see actual E-Cranes in operation. E-Crane guests and attendees were also given special access to the WorkBoat Show, and were able to attend the exhibit hall throughout the week.
CG Public Meetings, Proposed Regulations
The U.S. Coast Guard is scheduled to hold public meetings in Seattle on Sept. 28 and in New Orleans on Sept. 30 to hear comments about a proposed rulemaking for ballast water discharge standards. A total of six public meetings are slated for the Coast Guard to receive comments about a proposed rulemaking published in the Federal Register Aug. 28 (74 FR 44632) that would add ballast water discharge standards to the Coast Guard’s ballast water management regulations in Title 33, Code of Federal Regulations, Part 151, Subparts C and D. The proposed rule would also add approval procedures for ballast water management systems found in Title 46, Code of Federal Regulations, Subchapter Q. The first public meeting is scheduled for Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.
Carnival Cruise Lines, Port of New Orleans Extend Contract
Carnival Cruise Lines and the Port of New Orleans announced a new two-year contract retroactive to October 2006, with the option to renew the deal for an additional two-year period, which could keep the world’s largest cruise line sailing regularly from the Crescent City through 2010. Under the terms of the contract, the 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy, which replaced the Carnival Sensation in October of 2006, will make a minimum of 70 calls per year to the Port of New Orleans’ new $37 million Erato Street Cruise Terminal and Parking Garage. The ship sails four- and five-day cruises to the Western Caribbean year-round, with port calls in Cozumel and Costa Maya.
