Nonprofit Honors Boysie Bollinger for Outstanding Achievements

Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit educational organization honoring the achievements of outstanding individuals and encouraging youth to pursue their dreams through higher education, today announced that Donald T. “Boysie” Bollinger, Chairman and CEO of Bollinger Enterprises, LLC and retired Chairman and CEO of Bollinger Shipyards, has been selected for membership in this prestigious organization. Mr. Bollinger joins 12 other exceptional business, civic and cultural leaders from across North America in receiving 2023 honors.

Seaspan to Raise $250m to Invest

Seaspan Corporation announced that it entered into a letter of intent (LoI) pursuant to which Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, through certain subsidiaries, will make an investment of US$250 million in Seaspan in exchange for the issuance by Seaspan of 5.5% interest bearing unsecured debentures and Class A Common Share purchase warrants. Seaspan intends to use the proceeds from this US$250 million investment to fund future growth initiatives, debt repayment and for general corporate purposes. Fairfax has agreed to subscribe on a private placement basis, and subject to certain conditions, for Debentures in a maximum aggregate amount of US$250 million.

Tony Bon: From Yarn Handler to CEO

January of 2017 saw the retirement of one of the veterans of the Samson family. Tony Bon, CEO through 2015 retired as of December 31, 2016. Bon shares his impressions of the time he’s been with Samson and the high points of both the company and the industry it serves. In the Navy they have an expression to describe a captain that moves up through the ranks: “He came up through the hawse pipes.” Bon’s journey to the corner office at Samson is a similar story. In 1974, after leaving Berklee College of Music in Boston, Bon needed a job.

Dawkins Joins Iridium Board of Directors

Iridium Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: IRDM) announced that Peter M. Dawkins, founder and principal of ShiningStar Capital LLC, and Brigadier General, U.S. Army (Retired), joined its Board of Directors. The appointment brings Iridium’s Board to ten members. Prior to founding his current firm, Gen. Dawkins was vice chairman of Global Wealth Management for Citigroup, vice chairman of the Citigroup Private Bank, and executive vice president and vice chairman of Travelers Insurance during an eleven-year tenure with the firm. Previously, from 1991-1996, he served as chairman and CEO of Primerica Financial Services, and earlier served as head of the U.S. consulting practice of Bain & Company. Chao, 2009 Horatio Alger Award Winner

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans announced that James S.C. Chao will be presented with the 2009 Horatio Alger Award and inducted as a lifetime member of the association for his determination in achieving success despite his humble upbringing. Chao, chairman of Foremost Group in New York, will be officially inducted into the prestigious association on April 3rd in Washington, D.C. Recipients must have overcome humble beginnings or adversity to achieve success and serve as outstanding role models to the national community.
