MOL Chemical Tankers to Acquire Fairfield Chemical Carriers

MOL Chemical Tankers has reached a deal to acquire the business of Fairfield-Maxwells' Fairfield Chemical Carriers in an all-cash transaction.Under the agreement, MOL Chemical Tankers would obtain 100% of the shares in Fairfield Chemical Carriers for about $400 million, subject to change depending on the price adjustment under the share purchase agreement.Fairfield Chemical Carriers’ fleet of 36 chemical tankers would dovetail with MOL Chemical Tankers’ fleet of 85 chemical tankers.

Odfjell Promotes First Female Captain

Odfjell announced it has promoted its first female captain in the history of the 109-year-old company. LNG Dual-fuel Chemical Tanker Launched for Fairfield

Japan's Fukuoka Shipbuilding has launched a new chemical tanker for U.S. based shipping company Fairfield Chemical Carriers (FCC).The newly built Fairchem Pioneer is FCC's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel stainless steel chemical tanker. According to FCC, the vessel's LNG propulsion technology reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25% compared to traditional marine fuels.The ship is the first of two 26,300-dwt chemical tankers FCC ordered from Fukuoka Shipbuilding, with options for four additional vessels.

Laino Named Chembulk CCO

Chembulk Tankers named Steve Laino its Chief Commercial Officer, based out of the Southport office and responsible for all facets of our commercial strategy worldwide, including chartering, projects and client relations. Laino comes to Chembulk with more than two decades of diverse experience in the maritime transportation industry, with experience in the chemical tanker sector. Laino has held roles in operations both at sea and ashore, in commercial capacities as a tanker broker, projects broker and shipowner. Most recently, Laino held the role of Chief Operating Officer of Chemical Transportation Group (CTG), which he founded together with two partners and a group of investors in 2014.

Crystal Nordic Sold to Essberger Tankers

Nordic Tankers and Embarcadero Maritime (a joint venture between Borealis Maritime and KKR) have signed and closed an agreement to sell the jointly held company Crystal Nordic to John T. Essberger in Hamburg, a leading owner and operator of chemical tankers in Europe. Crystal Nordic was established following the combination of Nordic Tankers’ inter-European stainless steel chemical tanker business with Crystal Pool in 2015. The parties have agreed not to disclose any financial information. Crystal Nordic is a Danish headquartered chemical tanker operator, owning 14 ships between 4,000 and 12,000 DWT, serving customers primarily in Northern Europe.

Odfjell Buys Secondhand Chemical Tanker

Oslo listed shipping firm Odfjell SE said it has purchased a secondhand stainless steel chemical tanker for $25.5 million.   The M/T Argent Eyebright, built in 2009 by Kitanihon Shipbuilding in Japan, has 16 stainless steel tanks.   On short term time charter to Odfjell Tankers since January 2017, Argent Eyebright will be renamed and put under NIS flag after closing the transaction end of June.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Sells First HyProp ECO System

MAN Diesel & Turbo announced that it has secured an order for a complete propulsion package for a chemical tanker. The order is significant in that it marks a “world-first”: the package is the first to feature a full HyProp ECO fuel-saving, hybrid propulsion system with PTO/PTH. The system will be employed aboard a 7,500-dwt stainless-steel chemical tanker ordered and operated by IÇDAŞ Çelik Enerji Tersane Ve Ulaşim Sanayi AŞ in Turkey. Navig8 Tankers Add New Vessel

Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. an international shipping company focused on the transportation of chemicals, today announced that it has taken delivery of the Navig8 Stellar, a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker from Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The Navig8 Stellar is the fourth of six vessels contracted at Kitanihon to be delivered to the Company and is the second and final vessel to be delivered under the sale and leaseback arrangements entered into with subsidiaries of SBI Holdings, Inc (“SBI”) announced on September 15, 2016. Following delivery from Kitanihon, the Navig8 Stellar was delivered to SBI under the terms of the sale MOA and then delivered back to the Company under bareboat charter.

Navig8 Chemical Adds New Tanker

Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. (the “Company”) (N‐OTC: CHEMS), an international shipping company focused on the transportation of chemicals, today announced that it has taken delivery of the Navig8 Sky, a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker, from Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (“Kitanihon”). The Navig8 Sky is the second of six vessels contracted at Kitanihon to be delivered to the Company and is the second and last vessel to be part financed under the secured loan facility with Credit Suisse AG announced on June 22, 2016. The Navig8 Sky will be entered into and operated in Navig8 Group’s Stainless8 commercial pool.

Navig8 Chemical Tankers Sees Income Rise

Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc reported its net income at $9.6 million, against a net income of $2.9 million seen in the three months ended June 30, 2015. Continued growth of the company’s operating fleet with the delivery of Navig8 Turquoise, a 49,000 DWT IMO2 Interline-coated chemical tanker and Navig8 Sirius, a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker, in the second quarter of 2016 and Navig8 Topaz, a -49,000 DWT IMO2 Interline-coated chemical tanker in July 2016. It has secured $286.2 million to finance the company’s newbuilding program. Navig8 has issued $93 million in amortizing notes due 2027, guaranteed by The Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) with an interest rate fixed at 2.9 percent per annum.

Navig8 Chemical Adds New Tanker from Kitanihon

Chemical shipping company Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. has taken delivery of its first stainless steel chemical tanker, the Navig8 Sirius, from Japanese shipbuilder Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. Navig8 Sirius is a 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tanker. The Navig8 Sirius is the first of six vessels contracted at Kitanihon to be delivered to the Company and is the first vessel to be delivered under the secured loan facility with Credit Suisse AG announced on June 22, 2016. The Navig8 Sirius will be entered into and operated in Navig8 Group's Stainless8 commercial pool. The company ordered the batch of six stainless steel chemical tankers in January 2014.

Team Tankers Acquires New Vessels

Team Tankers International (TTI) completed the acquisition of the ‘Sichem Amethyst’ and ‘Sichem Contester’, previously on timecharter in the Q4 2015. In addition, two of the company's older and smaller ships were sold. To continue to build up its European regional stainless steel fleet, Team Tankers agreed to acquire the ‘Southern Zebra’, a 8,900 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker. Delivery is expected in March, 2016. In 4Q15, the company took delivery of an IMOII MR on a one-year timecharter. “As part of our growth strategy in the regional coated ship class, the company acquired two ships, and took delivery of two ships on time charter in this class subsequent to quarter end,” TTI further added.

PMM Dips Into Chemical Ship Management Sector

Principal Maritime Management LLC (PMM) of Southport, Connecticut, a shipping company owned by affiliates of Apollo Global Management LLC, informs of its new business in the stainless steel chemical shipping sector, through Princimar tankship acquisitions. PMM explain that Princimar Chemical Carriers (Princimar) acquired its initial three stainless steel chemical tankers, from existing owners. Princimar is focused primarily on acquiring stainless steel chemical tankers which operate in the global specialty and commodity chemical shipping trades. It has fully committed financing in place for additional acquisitions, and plans an initial fleet of 12 to 15 vessels.

New Stainless Steel Chemical Tanker Platform

GL Contracts 60th Ship with Chinese Yard

A 19,800 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker vessel is the 60th ship being built with Germanischer Lloyd class at Qingshan Shipyard. The 10th anniversary of close cooperation between Qingshan Shipyard and Germanischer Lloyd is being celebrated on August 3 with a ceremony attended by more than 100 guests. Participants include the President of Chang Jiang Shipping Group Liu Xihan, the Vice Governor of Hubei Province Li Chunming, the Vice Mayor of Wuhan City Yue Yong and other representatives of local government and authorities. 27 vessels have been delivered since 1996, 33 ships are under construction and on order. In total, more than 750,000 dwt have been constructed with GL class at Qingshan Shipyard. Qingshan Shipyard has 3,800 employees and is located at the Yangzi River in Wuhan.
