Port of Rotterdam Offers 'Substantial' Port Fee Reduction to for Ships that Bunker Sustainable Fuels

Port of Rotterdam said Thursday it would offer "a substantial port fee reduction" for ships that bunker sustainable fuels in Rotterdam, "supporting the recently announced Zero Emissions Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) and recognizing front runners in the road to maritime decarbonization."Boudewijn Siemons, COO and CEO a.i. of the Port of Rotterdam: ā€œIt is vital that the shipping industry makes the switch to zero-emission fuels. Divers Inspect Grounded Ro-Ro

The 93 passengers and 36 crew on a ro-ro ran aground approximately 100 meters from shore at Barangay Nasunugan in Banton, the Philippines, at midnight on July 16 have now been rescued and refloating efforts have begun.Montenegro Shippingā€™s Maria Helena was sailing from Lucena Port in Lucena City, Quezon Province, bound for San Agustin Port in Tablas, Romblon, when the incident occurred.The vessel has been listing 10 degrees to portside, and the Captain is reported to have attributed the list to to the explosion of one tire of one of the rolling cargoes onboardā€¦

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group company based in Yokohama, today held a christening and launch ceremony for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel, the first to operate in western Japan, built under contract for KEYS Bunkering West Japan Co., Ltd. The ceremony was conducted at the Enoura Plant at MHI's Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The new vessel, christened KEYS Azalea, is scheduled for handoverā€¦

New Icebreaking Cruise Ship Design Unveiled

Naval architecture and marine engineering firm Knud E. Hansen has introduced a new 144-meter-long icebreaking expedition cruise vessel design with accommodations for up to 300 passengers in 150 cabins.Designed to achieve a service speed of 17 knots in open water, and with the ability to operate in solid multi-year ice of 1.8m thickness, the vessel has diesel electric propulsion, and two azipod-units, each 7.5 MW. The six generators have a combined power of approximately 23 MW and are fueled by a combination of marine diesel oil (MDO), and natural gas (LNG).

Knud E. Hansen Intros New Ferry Design

Danish-based consultancy Knud E. Hansen has designed a 212-metre RoPax ferry with a large battery bank to power it while dockside, allowing for zero emissions in port.RoPax ferry can transport up to 700 passengers and 390 cars. The vessel also boasts 2955 lane metres for trucks and trailers.The layout and access arrangements makes it an ideal choice for the Mediterranean market although it is also well suited for a variety of locations and operating conditions worldwide.The vessel has a service speed of 23 knots and can operate close to optimum engine load, even at slow speeds. The two propulsion engines have a combined power of approximately 25.6 Megawatts and are fueled by marine diesel oil (MDO).For the hotel load two gensets, each abt. 1500 Kilowatts are provided.

ABS Grants AIP to KHI's LPG System

ABS, a global provider of classification and technical advisory services to the marine and offshore industries, has granted Approval in Principle (AIP) to Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. In a whitepaper released today, ā€˜Flexible Injector to Advance Alternative Fuels Researchā€™, the engine designers describe how the concept will play a crucial role in its investigations into low-carbon liquid fuels and engine injection concepts to harness them.The system was developed as part of HERCULES 2, a collaborative European engine research project which concluded in 2018.

Ulstein Debuts Zero-Emission Offshore Ship Design

Ulstein Group unveiled a hydrogen-powered ship design that it claims is market-ready, offering zero-emission marine operations.Recently, DNV GL identified the five most promising alternative fuels for shipping, with hydrogen as the ultimate zero-emission solution. The first complete hydrogen fueled prospect has been put together by Ulstein Design & Solutions BV and Nedstack fuel cell technology BV. The ULSTEIN SX190 Zero Emission DP2 construction support vessel is Ulsteinā€™s first hydrogen powered offshore vessel, featuring a Nedstack fuel cell power system. Hansen has released its newest design, a 154-meter RoPax ferry that can transport up to 1,500 passengers and 440 cars.The vessel also offers an additional 657 lane meters for trucks and trailers, said the marine engineering company.The vessel has a service speed of 25 knots and can operate close to optimum engine load even at slow speeds due to its diesel electric propulsion plant and azimuthing pods. The four engines have a combined power of approximately 48 Megawatts and are fueled by marine diesel oil (MDO). There are also two tunnel thrusters located at the bow which, combined with the azipods, allow the vessel to move laterally without any forward or aft motion, a very desirable feature for mooring.

Sembmarine to Build LNG Bunker Tanker for MOL
