Rochester Harbor Pier Repair Contract Awarded

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District awarded a $3.85 million contract to Illinois-based Great Lakes Dock and Materials, L.L.C. on March 31 for repairs to the Rochester Harbor East Pier in Rochester, N.Y.Repairs will ensure the pier, along with its adjacent federal navigation channel, continue to provide safe passage and refuge for commercial and recreational vessels between the Genesee River, Lake Ontario and the rest of the Great Lakes.“The Port of Rochester…

Moose Boats Delivers Fireboat to Rochester, NY

California-based boatbuilder Moose Boats has delivered a new fireboat to the Rochester, N.Y. Fire Department. The M2-38, dubbed Marine 1, is the first Moose in the Great Lakes. Moose Boats wins Rochester NY FD Contract

Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, was awarded a contract from the City of Rochester, New York Fire Department for the construction of the first M2-38 Fire Rescue Catamaran to be delivered to the Great Lakes. Twin Cummins 425hp turbo diesel propulsion engines, Twin Disc transmissions and Hamilton water-jets will power the M2-38 aluminum catamaran. City Will Bid to Buy Ferry

According to an article published in the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, the city of Rochester is poised to bid to buy the Spirit of Ontario, which now sits idly at the Port of Rochester. According to the paper the City Council approved a measure to turn the service into a publicly run operation, and it will try to buy the ship at a foreclosure auction scheduled for February 28. The $42.5 million aluminum catamaran operated for just 80 days this past summer before halting service in financial disarray.

Broken Fuel Line Cancels Ferry Promo Trip

According to News10 NBC, Rochester's fast ferry ran into some problems on Lake Ontario Tuesday causing the cancellation of a planned trip. Bay Ferries officials’ say the fast ferry was on a special promotional trip to Toronto and halfway through the trip, the captain decided to turn the ship around and head back to the Port of Rochester. Officials say high waves on Lake Ontario affected a fuel line Monday and that caused the ship not to have full power on its trip Tuesday. Crewmembers also reported 12-ft. swells on the lake. Because of the weather conditions and the fuel line problem, the captain made the decision to return to port. The fuel line is being replaced. “It is unfortunate.
